SUMMARY: This position will manage and direct the supervision of all logistics operations of our beef processing production operations. This position will ensure the supporting logistics of our production meets objectives at a designed quality level consistent with the lowest cost while maintaining excellent service levels and a safe work environment.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:

  • The Director of logistics is responsible for the strategic development and overall leadership of all logistics operations at Greater Omaha.

  • Constructively challenge our data to day operations and modes of transportation to assure optimal execution.

  • Export freight experience required. Logistics Manager is responsible for determining carrier based on rate, availability, and customer service provided

  • Verify all export customer instructions are complete and all necessary permits/ licenses are in place to meet country requirements as well as planned domestic overweight shipments

  • Oversee the process of booking inland trucking/dray carrier and dispatch to include all modes of transportation (reefer, intermodal, FTL, LTL) based off market volatility and business needs

  • Determine appropriate carrier based on recent RFP awards, availability and KPIs.

  • Oversee the process of coordinating appointment scheduling with carriers according to production availability, facility costs, and free days/storage given

  • Oversee Logistics Manager who will coordinate deliveries of full and partial truckloads to trans-load facilities. Decisions will be based off facility costs, port congestion, and steamship line rate

  • Collaborates with sales and credit to request credit approval on shipments, confirms load details in the TMS, and release orders to the inspection facility

  • Monitor on-site container loading and confirm customs clearance with Freight Forwarder upon product arrival to destinations

  • Stay current on the constantly changing government requirements of international business/markets and update senior leadership to changes that could potentially affect the flow of goods and services

  • Responsible for daily crisis-management and rescheduling shipments if needed

  • Support security team and provide guidance on anything transportation and logistics related

  • Experience with McLeod or other TMS is a plus

Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or experience:

A four-year degree, and ten years of related experience with some portion in cold-chain industry. Strong management skills utilizing sound management principles in leading a team of employees. Proven ability to train and motivate personnel. Must have strong organizational skills.

Communication skills:

Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, business partners, U.S.D.A., supervisors and employees. Bilingual is a plus.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical, diagram, written and/or verbal form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to mine, analyze, prepare and present food safety data. Be able to demonstrate proficiency in software such as, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and prestige.

Work Environment:

The work environment is primarily office environment however the need may arise to be in our manufacturing and warehouse areas.
