Position Summary and Duties
The Director of LGBTQIA+ Student Services will inspire and promote student learning and engagement in co-curricular leadership opportunities. The Director will serve as a support to LGBTQIA+ students, guiding them as they navigate campus and connecting students with available resources. The Director will act as a resource for students with questions about navigating processes and procedures throughout the University. The Director will represent student needs at various meetings and committees throughout campus.Student Support• Provide outreach and support to LGBTQIA+ students for their academic, social, and spiritual success.• Develop a peer mentoring program and leadership development program for students.• Work collaboratively across the University to support the success of LGBTQIA+ students.• Collaborate with Career Advising and the Alumni Office to provide post-graduate support to LGBTQIA+ students.• Collaborate with athletics and athletes for social justice to promote inclusive support for LGBTQIA+ student athletes.• Attend the annual Ignatian Q conference and coordinate the selection of student attendees.Programming and Training• Plan, coordinate, and facilitate a pre-fall orientation program for incoming LGBTQIA+ students.• Provide additional programming and support student organization events particularly SAGDAW (Sexual and Gender Diversity Awareness Week), National Coming Out Day, Rainbow Prom, Transgender Day of Remembrance, Lavender Ceremony, etc.• Provide SAFE Space training to all members of the campus community including curriculum development, facilitation and follow up. Work collaboratively across the University to provide training to student leaders such as RAs, Evergreens (Orientation leaders), SGA and other student leader groups.• Develop a Messina (first year experience program) module curriculum to teach first year students gender inclusive practices.Administration and Collaboration• Attend weekly directors' meeting, one on one supervision meetings, and other divisional/university wide meetings and events.• Update print, web and social media resources and keep the PRIDE Resource room current.• Staff LGBTQIA+ Services table at admitted students open house.• Staff LGBTQIA+ Services table during summer orientation, Fall Activities Fair and other events.Supervision and Advising• Provide supervision to a graduate assistant in supporting the needs of LGBTQIA+ students on campus.• Advise the LGBTQIA+ Experience Group, SPECTRUM and other upcoming graduate student affinity group.Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Qualifications

  • Typically, 8+years relevant experience, including 3 years of supervisory responsibilities.• Demonstrated knowledge of crisis response and engaging in emergency situations.• Strong background in student development practices.• Previous supervisory experience and/or the ability to articulate effective leadership practices.• A strong commitment to DEIJ and working with diverse student populations.• Understanding and/or openness to learn about the Catholic and Jesuit tradition of Loyola.• Proven ability and/or the ability to maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external constituents.
