Wesleyan College is currently seeking a dynamic learning specialist to serve as our Director of Learning Support Services. The Director will collaborate with the Academic Resource Center (ARC) team and cross-campus colleagues to ensure our learning support services are grounded in relevant student development and learning theory, offered consistently and equitably across campus, and promote students' holistic wellbeing. The Director will report to the Dean for Teaching, Learning, & Student Success. The Director must occasionally be available to work some evenings and weekends.

Essential Duties:

  • Maintain a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, and problem solving with a desire to prioritize and support student success.

  • Provide strong student advocacy through a commitment to the College's mission and promotion of interdepartmental teamwork.

  • Innovate, initiate, and lead learning support services that are rooted in best practices and promote student success.

  • Manage day-to-day ARC budget and hiring matters.

  • Hire, train, develop, and supervise ARC Learning Specialists.

  • Oversee the ARC's student worker hiring, onboarding, and payroll processes while serving as the direct supervisor for all ARC student workers.

  • Oversee the ARC's peer assisted study session (PASS) offerings and collaborate with faculty to ensure PASS sessions are supporting course goals and meeting students' learning needs.

  • Provide one-on-one learning support for students developing general academic success skills (e.g., time management, organization, exam preparation, note taking, study, and self-efficacy) and learning to leverage assistive technology (e.g., ReadSpeaker/TextAid and SmartPens) for academic success.

  • Serve as an academic recovery coach for students whose GPAs fall below 2.0 and co-teach the College's Academic Recovery course for first-year students.

  • Model culturally-responsive, trauma-sensitive teaching and tutoring techniques.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications and Training:

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.

  • Experience in developmental education (or learning support) instruction, tutor training and supervision, budget management, and promoting retention and student success initiatives at the higher education level.

  • Three years of job-related experience in a college/university setting.

  • Demonstrated ability to work productively and collaboratively with ARC teammates, faculty, students, staff, and external agencies.

  • Proficiency with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas or Blackboard), Google Suite tools, Excel, and payroll software.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, flexibility, and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
