Coney Island Preparatory Public Charter School

Brooklyn, New York

What is the Role?

Coney Island Prep is searching for a visionary leader skilled in talent development, program design, and performance management to launch its new Leader Lab. The Director plays a pivotal role in driving professional development, bridging the gap between leadership theory and practice, and advancing Coney Island Prep talent and equity priorities.

Coney Island Prep's Leader Lab cultivates and invests in transformational leaders and educators who drive equity and excellent outcomes for our scholars and community. Drawing upon the latest research and scientific insights, Leader Lab studies, advances, and promotes leader mindsets, behaviors, and habits, aligned to Coney Island Prep's proprietary, research-backed leader and teacher competency models. As our school's professional learning hub, Leader Lab drives development through direct professional learning sessions and cohort opportunities.

In addition, the Director of Leader Lab facilitates and drives the organization's annual performance management cycle, including goal-setting, mid-year and end-of-year performance reviews for Coney Island Prep's more than 250 employees. The Director of Leader Lab will report directly to the Chief Talent & Equity Officer.

What You'll Be Asked To Do

Develop talent by leading, operationalizing, and scaling the organization's central leadership development hub to support non-teachers in the near term, and eventually support teacher-leader development in the long term.

  • Develop and deliver select professional development modules that align with the organization's Leadership Competency Model and Instructional Practice & Development Guide

  • Develop and manage annual leadership development cohorts with sequenced learning objectives based on tenure, aspirations, learning goals, and performance

  • Support a New Teacher Cohort that specializes in supporting teachers who are within 0-1 years of tenure in the profession or in their first year at Coney Island Prep

Collaborate and co-lead by working closely with members of the organization's talent team, including Human Resources and Talent Acquisition teams, to drive the organization's overall talent and equity vision, priorities and strategy.

  • Collaborate with Chief Schools, Chief Academic, and Chief Operating Officers to advance professional learning for school leaders and non-instructional leaders

  • Lead a cohort of Leader Lab Fellows and Faculty who promote best practices and lead cohort learning

Deliver exceptional results by driving the Leader Lab's outcomes for retaining talented staff and building a pipeline of diverse transformational teachers and leaders at every level of the organization, who achieve increasingly impressive results for scholars.

  • Stay current with the latest research on leadership development and consistently integrate findings into Leader Lab's programs

  • Elevate adult learning principles, brain science research, and external literature and resources to connect general leadership and talent development best practices to education and social justice

  • Facilitate Coney Island Prep's annual performance management cycle, guide goal-setting, evaluations, and regular communication of organizational projects and priorities

Build diverse, equitable, and inclusive community by infusing diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice principles into all aspects of Leader Lab and leader competencies

  • Advance Racial Equity Principles as an antidote to white supremacy culture through concrete leader habits and practices

  • Connect Leader Lab's initiatives to the retention of historically marginalized groups

  • Ensure that Leader Lab's initiatives contribute to a more equitable and inclusive educational environment by elevating leaders who reflect the diversity of our student population and broader community
