The Director of Laboratory Operations oversees the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, including equipment, staff, and, and procedures. This role is responsible for ensuring the lab performs to the standards specified by state regulations and accrediting agencies.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensure that testing systems in the laboratory provide quality services in all aspects of test performance, i.e., the pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing and are appropriate for our patient population.
Ensure that the physical and environmental conditions of the laboratory are adequate and appropriate for the testing performed.
Ensure that the environment is safe from physical, chemical, and biological hazards and safety and biohazard requirements are followed.
Make available a general supervisor (high complexity testing) to provide day-to-day supervisor of all testing personnel and reporting of test results.
Employ a sufficient number of appropriately educated, experience, and/or trained personnel who provide appropriate consultation, properly supervised, and accurately perform tests and report test results in accordance with the written duties and responsibilities specified by the Laboratory Director, are employed by the laboratory.
See that new test procedures are reviewed, included in the procedure manual and followed up by personnel.
Ensure that each employee's responsibilities and duties are specified in writing.
Be responsible for the development and use of a quality system approach to laboratory testing that involves:
Ongoing monitoring of each testing process used in the laboratory in order to identify errors or potential problems that could result in error;
Taking corrective action; and
Evaluating the corrective actions taken to make sure that they were effective and will prevent recurrence
Perform other responsibilities as mandated by CLIA and any other pertinent local, state or federal regulations.
Other Job Duties
Must meet the experience, educational, and training requirements for a Laboratory Director under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).
Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology
5 years in a clinical laboratory environment with at least 3 years of progressive leadership experience
Minimum 4 years testing experience in a clinical laboratory
State of TN Laboratory Supervisors or Lab Director license
