Job Summary:

Reporting to the Office of Institutional Effectiveness chief administrator, the director conducts a wide variety of quantitative and qualitative analyses to guide institutional decision-making, inform and shape policy, and evaluate processes. The Director of Institutional Research and Analytics also directly supports the President and Executive Vice President/Chief of Staff on data initiatives that are strategic and high visibility in nature. The director is responsible for maintaining compliance with federal and state reporting requirements; performing statistical analyses; presenting findings; anticipating stakeholder needs; providing both a detail-oriented and a big-picture perspective; and establishing a landscape for analytic growth. Areas for analytics growth include strategic hardware and software acquisition or changes, training and communicating strategies and industry trends for continuous improvement implementation of a robust data governance process, and business intelligence infrastructure.

Essential Functions:

1.Manages institutional response to external report requirements including but not limited to Federal Reporting (IPEDS Survey Keyholder), the State Government (Institutional Reporting Official to the THECB) and similar representative agencies.

2.Manages internal reporting, including but not limited to Institutional Business Intelligence Dashboards, Institutional Profiles, Census Reporting and Annual Factbook and Common Data Set.

3.Creates, Maintains, and Updates Key Institutional Resources including visualizations and dashboards on Institutional Data Portal (Power BI), and Facts and Figures for Our Lady of the Lake University's Website.

4.Leads efforts to improve enterprise-level data integrity and quality. Co-Chairs Data Governance Committee and is a permanent member of the Institutional Effectiveness Council.

5.Administers, analyzes, and disseminates periodic reports about Student Outcomes and maintains updated Institutional Student Outcomes (KPI's), Goals, and Thresholds of Acceptability.

6.Supports different offices with annual auditing efforts, included but not limited with the Office of Finance and the Office of Financial Aid.

7.Manages the design, and execution of ad hoc institutional reports for university's administrators, which included comparative analysis of peer, aspirational, and competitor institutions.

8.Ensures continuous data support to retention, enrollment, and matriculation efforts, by providing continuous reporting and communication to administrators and university staff.

9.Contributes to enterprise software and system projects, ensuring reporting-ability of end products.



  1. Provides data support to Institutional Advancement, to apply, maintain compliance, and evaluate outcomes of different federal, state, and private grants.

  2. Plays a central role in university accreditation, serves as a vital member of the university's accreditation team.

  3. Establishes and maintains databases and data dictionaries

  4. In conjunction with their supervisor and Institutional Effectiveness Staff, establishes a vision and plan to implement analytics in multiple university areas. Including, training to faculty, and staff on current industry trends, to promote continuous improvement.

  6. Oversees contracts, with institutional effectiveness vendors, including but not limited to Qualtrics, Anthology Course Evaluations and Accreditation, SAS, National Student Clearinghouse, etc. Oversees Institutional Research Purchasing and Budget.

  7. Directly supports the President and Executive Vice President/Chief of Staff on data initiatives of a strategic, high-visibility, and high-impact nature.


Additional Responsibilities:

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1.Ability to design studies, perform statistical modeling, and develop datasets (including manipulating, merging, restructuring, and analyzing).

2.Knowledge (or ability to quickly acquire knowledge) of institutional research with particular respect to such organizational datasets/surveys (IPEDS, Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC) Annual Institutional Profile, THECB/ICUT, Common Data Set, and US News & World Report).

3.Experience automating reports through programming, (SAS, R, SPSS). OLLU currently utilizes SAS and R.

4.Excellent technical computer skills with proficiency in working with large datasets and spreadsheets, utilizing programming languages, and the ability to merge multiple datasets together from a variety of sources.

5.Knowledge of information science, predictive analytics, data warehousing technologies, and business intelligence.

6.Ability to generate hypotheses and demonstrate a proactive approach to investigation.

7.Ability to manage multiple short-range and long-term projects simultaneously.

8.Ability to work within data warehousing and student information systems (Ellucian Colleague)

9.Ability to develop and administer surveys, and interpret survey research.

  2. Ability to build and maintain client relationships is required.

  3. Commitment to accuracy and an eye for detail.

  4. Position is eligible for limited hybrid/remote work with supervisor approval.


Experience & Education:

1.Bachelor's degree required (Master's degree preferred) with training in statistics, analytics, information technology, operations research, psychology, economics, or other quantitative social science/research related field. Master's degree preferred.

2.Five years relevant experience in applied statistics, survey research, data management, data analysis and/or project management required.

3.Two years of experience working with a statistical package and/or database query and reporting tools (such as SQL, SPSS, SAS, STATA, or R) required or preferred?

4.Two years of direct experience working with data visualization software systems preferred. (OLLU currently utilizes Microsoft PowerBI)

5.Two years of working with an enterprise resource planning (or similar) system preferred. (OLLU utilizes Ellucian Colleague.)

6.Experience working in higher education setting preferred.

7.Prior experience in a supervisory capacity preferred.
