Position Title: Director of Insights & Analytics

Reports To: VP, Marketing

This position is responsible for both business data and analytics as well as consumer insights. This role will leverage numerous data sources to analyze business performance, identify actionable insights and provide strategic recommendations that drive competitive advantage.

This individual will be responsible for driving best practices in analytics, building overall capabilities and developing talent. This role reports into the VP of Marketing with high visibility to the sales and marketing organizations as well as the Leadership Team and CEO. Currently, this position manages a team of two.

Primary Responsibilities:

Sales & Marketing Analytics

  • Lead the analytics team, owning regular performance reporting and analysis across all product lines and top accounts, leveraging multiple data sources (SPINS, Nielsen, Owned etc.) as well as industry knowledge.

  • Lead regular assessment of sales performance accurately calling out drivers and drags of the business (pricing, trends, new product introduction, competitive etc.)

  • Work closely with the sales team to measure and monitor key customer performance and business drivers

  • Partner with sales team to build professional, high-impact sales presentations; develop customer-specific recommendations

  • Deliver category level trends and insights act as a category thought leader and liaison to various industry reports, events, etc.

Consumer Insights

  • Build our consumer insights capability to provide deeper insight into the target consumer and their needs, wants, perceptions and preferences

  • Develop strategic and tactical recommendations through analytics and insights to measure, strengthen and optimize our market position, brand perception and target audience

  • Deliver insights and trends across our category and other relevant categories

Basic Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree in related field

Experience: Minimum of 10+ years' experience in analytics and insights with Consumer Packaged Goods or relevant industry

Competencies & General Skills

  • People management experience with proven ability to develop talent

  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail able to manage complex, incomplete & inconsistent data sets into defined actionable steps

  • Strong verbal/written and oral presentation and communication skills

  • Substantial experience reporting on and analyzing syndicated data (Nielsen, IRI, SPINS, etc.) as well as building tools from these data sources

  • Ability to produce presentations that tell a narrative and drive conclusions

  • Must appreciate pets as well as Merrick's goals and mission

  • Willingness to be flexible, adaptable, and proactive in a constantly changing industry and company

  • Self-starter that thrives in fast paced environment

  • Collaborative partner, able to work well cross functionally

STRATEGY INSIGHTS & PLANNING ASSOCIATE Strategy Insights & Planning Associates (SIPAs) create and deliver solutions for our clients and project teams. SIPAs leverage their analytic, synthesis and communication skills to derive insights and solve business problems. In particular, SIPAs apply problem-solving frameworks to client issues, support clients in change initiatives and employ standard analytic techniques to help guide client decisions. Responsibilities: * Leverage problem solving skills and frameworks to develop solutions to client business problems; * Conduct market research and/or desk research to derive insights and inform client decision making; * Design custom analyses using tools like Excel, Access, Confirmit and ZS's proprietary software; * Synthesize and communicate results to clients and ZS teams; * Collaborate with client and ZS teams to implement solutions; * Take immediate responsibility for project deliverables; * Drive problem solving and advance ZS's capabilities. Qualifications: * Bachelor's or master's degree required in any discipline with strong academic performance in analytic and quantitative coursework (business, economics, marketing, psychology, physical or life sciences, engineering, applied mathematics, statistics or relevant fields); * Up to 3 years of relevant post-collegiate job experience, preferably gathering and analyzing qualitative or quantitative data; * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; * High motivation, good work ethic, maturity and personal initiative; * Effective oral and written communication skills; * Empathy, adaptability and emotional intelligence; * Strong attention to detail, with a quality-focused mindset; * Self-discipline for planning and organizing tasks; * Aptitude for, and enjoyment of, working in teams.
