Summary:

St. Columba Catholic School is a diverse Catholic school serving students in Preschool through 8th grade in the Serra Mesa neighborhood of central San Diego, California. We are seeking a full time Director of Inclusion to support our teachers in developing safe, supportive, and intellectual learning environments while striving to help students fully develop and fulfill their academic and personal potential. The role of the Director of Inclusion is to oversee and implement student learning plans; to work with teachers to differentiate their curriculum as needed; to support students and teachers in their efforts to advance students with different learning needs; and work with parents and outside professionals as needed.

This is achieved by Modeling and teaching the message and mission of Jesus Christ, Partnering with Families as the Primary Educators, Implementing a Departmentalized System of Learning, Promoting Restorative Justice Practices, Integrating Resources and Personnel to support all types of learners, and Fostering a Spirit of Service and Social Justice.

Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Knowledge of the current student learning plans

  • Create and implement a protocol for determining who will receive academic support

  • Review and execute Referral Process for students with academic needs and determine what further actions need to occur

  • Provide initial screenings to help guide next steps

  • Assist teachers in classrooms to help develop more inclusive approaches to their craft

  • Work with parents to recommend various supports as needed

  • Meet with outside specialists as needed

  • Act as liaison between LEA, school, and parents to obtain testing and consultations

  • Provide individualized/group instruction and/or support to students with academic needs

  • Responsible for maintaining the scheduling of academic support teachers/tutors working with students on campus throughout the school day

  • Create, maintain and oversee an educational plan for each student requiring support and accommodations, including action items for teacher(s), student, parents, and academic support specialist/tutor

  • Establish and maintain frequent communication with parents, including phone calls, emails, parent meetings, check-ins, etc.

  • Make recommendations for home interventions

  • Schedule, attend, take notes of meetings for all students receiving Instructional Support

  • Seek out new and innovative curricula, texts, and technological applications for implementation in our classrooms

  • Remain current with accepted and appropriate instructional theory, practice and research, and participate in professional development

  • Provide input to teachers regarding student grading as necessary

  • Attend and participate in weekly faculty meetings, committee meetings, school functions, and professional development activities during and after school hours as needed, appropriate and assigned

  • Uphold the philosophy, principles, policies, and procedures of St. Columba Catholic School

  • Represent St. Columba Catholic School positively in the school community and the wider community

  • Adhere to strict student confidentiality

  • Perform other tasks as deemed necessary and appropriate by the Principal

Religious Qualifications:

  • Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred)
  • Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy

Professional Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid Special Education credential and/or Master's Degree in Special Education

  • Three-five years of successful, full time teaching experience in Special Education and reading literacy, preferred

  • Knowledge and Understanding of State/Federal Policies specific to students with learning needs (ESSA, IDEA, etc.)

  • Excellent organizational, planning, and implementation skills

  • Ability to manage the ambiguity and multiple priorities inherent in an educational environment

  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with multiple constituencies

  • Excellent written, communication, and presentation skills

  • High proficiency in Google Applications

  • Initiative, leadership, and tenacity

  • Ability to stay positive through challenges

  • Detail-oriented team player willing to commit to the improvement of ALL students Some team planning meetings may require additional time after school. Occasional evening and weekend commitments are required throughout the school year, as well.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to remain in an office at a computer workstation and access information from a computer and use a telephone. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the school, as well as maneuver throughout the parish/school facility to attend meetings, briefings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend meetings or events. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
