Position Description
Reporting to the Dean for Administration and Finance for Harvard College and the Associate Dean for FAS Human Resources, and serving as a member of the leadership team, the Director of Harvard College Human Resources manages a Sr. HR Consultant, the Manager for Staffing and Training, and an HR Coordinator. Together, they provide strategic and comprehensive HR services on complex employee relations matters, organizational design and development, change management, talent acquisition, compensation, learning and development, and diversity initiatives for College staff, including administrative, residential, and student employees.
Leadership and Strategy:
Collaborates with FAS HR Consulting to ensure consistent application of policy, process and best practices
Designs and implements a partnership model for the delivery of the full range of HR services across the College.
Leverages the use of data and HR Analytics to inform business solutions
Facilitates long-term initiatives aligned with the Harvard Human Resources strategic priorities. Collaborates and provides input for succession planning, organizational development and other strategic initiatives including change management.
Addresses the need for policy appeals and/or resources for investigations, as needed
Proactively develops, implements, and supports human resources related strategies and guidelines in relation to the organization's mission, objectives, and operational needs.
Builds and maintains effective relationships with department heads / staff to understand needs and provide strategic human resources support.
Compensation decisions, performance goals and reviews are coordinated between the Associate Dean for HR and the Dean, Administration and Finance.
The College HR team follows University policies and generally adhere to FAS HR practices whenever possible and appropriate.
Staff Management:
Assures that performance expectations are clear and consistent.
Partners with the FAS HR team on talent management and career development, ensuring staff has necessary tools, including training opportunities, to succeed.
Manages a Manager of Staffing and Training, Senior HR Consultant, and HR Coordinator; collaborates with a Talent Acquisition Consultant under FAS HR that supports the College.
Client Relations:
Gathers, assesses, and responds to feedback on HR services, making adjustments as needed.
Develops, promotes and implements feedback mechanisms for employees and managers to ensure appropriate HR services and processes are offered within the College
In partnership with Sr HR Consultant, crafts communications to advance FAS HR programs and agenda
Supports FAS HR team in communicating HR's vision, mission, and initiatives
Delivery of services:
Serves as an internal expert and provides guidance with state and federal employment and labor laws, and University workforce policies in partnership with FAS HR Sr. HR Consultant
Completes all Classification review forms for the college and coordinates with FAS HR Sr. Consultant to ensure documents are ready for classification review analyst and committee.
Ensures that a strong leadership, development, inclusive and coaching culture permeates the client organizations
Owns, updates, and maintains local HRIS for proctors, tutors, house aides (HORATIO)
Stakeholder relations:
In partnership with FAS Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (ODEIB), the Directors for both DEIB and Talent Acquisition and Development within the FAS, champions the attraction, development, and retention of a diverse, talented, and engaged workforce
Works with FAS HR Sr. Consultant to liaise with the Offices of Labor and Employee Relations (OLER) and General Counsel (OGC) on matters related to the HUCTW contract and employment law
Attends to the promotion of a positive work culture; helps to drive culture change through Spirit events, manager coaching, and other approaches
Other duties as assigned.
