ROLE: The Director of Human Resources stewards positive and productive relationships between employees and the University. The Director of Human Resources manages employment processes including hiring, benefit administration, training, evaluation, policies, procedures, employee relations, legal compliance, termination, and Title IX.
STAFF RELATIONSHIPS:
Report to the Chief Mission Officer
Supervise Human Resources department
Interact and collaborate with the Office of the General Counsel on a regular basis
Interact and collaborate with the Provost's Office on a regular basis
Interact and collaborate with the Finance Department on a regular basis
Interact with campus departments and employees at various times
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to accomplish each of the below duties satisfactorily:
Lead and manage Human Resources personnel functions including recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, leaves and worker's comp management, legal compliance, contract management, data management, employee relations, conflict resolution, performance management, and Title IX.
Partner with executive, senior and middle management by providing professional HR support; serve as an consultant on HR and organizational issues. Work with supervisors and university leadership with reorganizations, rightsizings, downsizings and departmental changes.
Serve as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator, attend monthly, annual and external Title IX training, assist with investigations, provide policy and compliance oversight related to employee Title IX matters, collaborate with the Title IX Coordinator, and perform related duties as assigned.
Attend monthly Equity Grievance Review Team meetings and annual training.
Attend weekly leadership council meetings and provide strategic direction regarding employee matters.
Manage and resolve employee relations issues, complaints, and concerns; conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations; develop, recommend and initiate appropriate steps for resolution.
Provide performance management guidance to supervisors and assist supervisors with coaching, disciplining, and terminating employees.
Collaborate with the Office of the General Counsel to maintain compliance with federal, state and local laws.
Implement employee policies and procedures; prepare and maintain the employee handbook.
Oversee faculty, coaches and other employment contracts to ensure compliance.
Work closely with the Provost regarding faculty management and compensation.
Oversee employee engagement activities including employee recognition programs, employee appreciation and any special events that promote employee engagement and support.
Effectively delegate, with appropriate oversight and accountability.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise Human Resources Department. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the university's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field required, Master's degree preferred
Human Resources certification preferred
Five or more years of experience in a role involving strategic planning and leadership
Understanding of and experience in the application of state and federal regulations including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, ADA, Title VII, Title IX, and FLSA, and their application in a Christian Higher Education environment
In-depth knowledge of all Human Resources functions including employee relations and conflict resolution
