Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration, the Director of Human Resources provides strategic leadership and oversight of the Human Resources Department and day-to-day operations for talent acquisition, employment, professional development, benefits, compensation and classification, staff recognition and events, employee relations, policies compliance and development, organizational development, and promotes diversity strategies and initiatives.
The Director will develop and administer HR strategic planning, forecasting, and administrative oversight on effective policies, procedures, and programs.
The Director will lead the HR management team in strategic oversight of the design, development, implementation, monitoring, and communication of the compensation and benefits program to include compensation, employee benefits, and other aspects of the work experience at Colorado College.
The Director will ensure effective staffing levels and structure for the HR department; provide leadership to ensure effective recruitment and onboarding processes, strategies, and activities for staff positions and faculty; develop, manage and deploy professional development programs for all employees to enhance workplace excellence, and promote Colorado College as a great place to work.
The Director will provide guidance and interpretation to members of the presidents cabinet, department heads/chairs, and managers/supervisors on discipline, complaint and dispute resolution, terminations, performance management, supervisor/employee relations, and other work related issues.
The Director will serve as the Deputy Title IX/VII Coordinator to respond to complaints from staff, provide guidance to supervisors and staff to address concerns, maintain files and reports, and facilitate staff education sessions with the Title IX/VII Coordinator.
In addition, the Director will develop, provide project management, and coordinate the execution of strategic HR initiatives/projects, and utilize a systemic approach to managing projects while establishing realistic timetables to keep projects on schedule.
A bachelors degree in human resources management, business administration, organizational development/administration, or other related field of study plus seven or more years experience in a senior leadership human resources management role and a minimum of five years supervising and managing staff are required.
Previous experience managing change efforts and project management along with specialized experience in at least five of the following areas is required: organizational development, employee relations, compensation, job classification, professional development, talent acquisition, employment, policy development and implementation, benefits, HRIS, equal employment and diversity, investigation, and conflict resolution and mediation.
The successful candidate must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, manage confidential matters with tact and diplomacy, possess budget management experience, and have the ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
The successful candidate must maintain strong business acumen and technology competency, be flexible, self-directed, goal oriented, possess a positive attitude and skills to promote a team-oriented environment, and demonstrate commitment to valuing and respecting diversity and inclusion.
A masters degree in human resources management, business administration, or other related field is preferred.
SPHR certification and knowledge of values-based leadership principles and skills; HR management experience in a higher education environment; and, experience working with enterprise database systems is desirable.
