Job Summary

The Director of Human Resources and Employee Engagement is responsible for employee programming that fosters a positive campus work environment and student focused culture at Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC). The Director leads the creation and expansion of employee programs in service to the institution's mission, vision and culture which is foundational in attracting, developing, inspiring and retaining staff and faculty.

Specifically, the Director is responsible for the full range of engagement programs and practices spanning the employee lifecycle from onboarding, recognition, performance management, employee relations, wellness, talent development and career planning. The core of this position requires a highly motivated, proactive, solution-driven person who embraces the opportunity to support a culture of engagement, inclusion, service, creativity and inspiration.

Responsibilities

Provides leadership in the Office of Human Resources for staff at large and in support of key initiatives for employee retention, engagement, and professional development; implements and maintains an HR culture that supports accountability, identification of solutions to resolve problems, and that fosters a diverse workplace that enables all employees to contribute to the organization at their full potential; oversees work to incorporate diversity, inclusion and belonging into the development and administration of people programs, processes and practices; identifies and analyzes employee data trends; develops proactive solutions to foster and support high employee engagement, diversity, inclusion and retention

Leads and directs programs to develop and sustain talent; areas of activity include talent management through learning and development and general business development programs to enhance employee knowledge, understanding and contribution toward the GGC mission; provides guidance to managers and assists with assessment of skill needs, employee experience, team performance and leadership impacts; develops strategies to close gaps; oversees and conducts exit interviews and reviews data trends to identify retention strategies

Provides confidential consultation and guidance to administrators and managers regarding complex employee matters including corrective actions, counseling, warnings, performance improvement plans, suspensions and terminations; reviews managers' requests regarding corrective actions to ensure compliance with policy; manages and resolves complex employee relations issues; conducts thorough and objective investigations; develops and delivers training to managers on employee relations and investigation topics; leads disciplinary case reviews, with VPHR and General Counsel

Guides department managers and employees through the performance management and goal setting process to support attainment of operational goals and aid in turning feedback into growth steps; oversees the development and implementation of training strategies to meet employee needs, including supervisory training, new employee onboarding and skill development; consults with campus leaders to ensure learning and development initiatives are consistent with business strategy, objectives and needs; conducts follow up studies of completed training in order to evaluate and measure results; provides regular updates to leadership

Oversees compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements and college policy, including the review and recommended actions related to new legislation

Supervises staff members to include hiring, training and development and coaching each to achieve optimal performance and in support of career aspirations; serves as a member of the HR management team by collaborating with HR leadership and key stakeholders to develop and implement measurable HR initiatives and solutions in support of GGC's strategic priorities

Serves as campus liaison and committee chairperson for campus wellness initiatives including the development and implementation of programs designed to enhance and support overall employee wellness

Conducts employee check-ins, employees surveys, and stay interviews to obtain employee feedback; identifies employee concerns and monitors overall employee satisfaction; partners with leadership to develop and implement action plans

Leverages data to derive actionable insights on the state of talent; uses data to influence key stakeholders for meaningful change to promote institutional growth and improvement; performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

4 Year / Bachelor's Degree in HR, Business, or related field

Seven years of Human Resource experience with heavy emphasis in employee relations and engagement

3+ years leadership experience

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in higher education

Experience with, and proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Office Suite, and PeopleSoft

Experience co-creating people strategies, leveraging influence tactics to implement change imperatives, leading staff directly and indirectly and applying data analysis in critical thinking to employee relations

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
