This position will include a studio apartment at the Executive Centre as part of the duties of the Director will be to comply with Title IX guidelines as a university representative being on site where students reside. This will include some on-call duties and other responsibilities that require on-site presence.
Job Summary:
Hawai'i Pacific University (HPU) is a private, non-profit student-centered institution of approximately 4,200 undergraduate and 700 graduate students. Founded in 1965, it is Hawai'i's largest private university with its core campus in the heart of Honolulu's business district. In recent years, the University has experienced year-over-year enrollment growth at the undergraduate and graduate levels in existing and new on-site, hybrid, and online programs. Expanding student success is a strategic priority for HPU, and as an institution with federally-designated Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander serving status, the University is leveraging federal grant funds, foundation grants, and internal resources to expand support student learning and success.
This position is a 12-month position that reports to the Dean of Students. This position also works closely with the Vice Provost of Student Success on the strategic direction of the residential experience, including facility management and planning. Successful candidates will be; individuals who are energetic, dedicated, team oriented, progressive, and student-centered; will also contribute to promoting community standards of aloha, pono, and kuleana; implementing educational programs and awareness campaigns leading students to develop and strengthen their moral, civic, and ethical responsibilities. The Director will also provide programs and activities to educate and prevent alcohol and drug abuse and sex discrimination, which contribute to student success and community inclusion. In addition, the Director is responsible for compliance with the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act, and will serve as the Title IX Deputy Coordinator, in conjunction with the Title IX Coordinator.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree, preferably in the areas of higher educational leadership, social work, or related discipline
At least five years of experience in housing and residential life in a college or university setting
Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations, including non-traditional adult learners
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, computer spreadsheet, word processing, and database (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher)
Desired Qualifications:
Five to ten years of experience working within student activities, student life, residential life, or other related university setting
Experience supervising professional staff in Housing/ Residential life areas
Experience with on-call and crisis response for students
Professional experience in student activities, student affairs, student support services, counseling, higher education, or a related field
Demonstrated leadership within a complex organization, including goal-setting, data gathering, and reporting to facilitate continuous improvement
Prior leadership experience within a university or community setting
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and experience in fostering an inclusive campus environment
Commitment to student-centered philosophy
Proven ability to lead and manage teams of diverse participants
Other Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with off-campus housing providers to provide additional housing for students including contract assessment and facility management
Experience working with StarRez housing software or other housing-related software
Experience with student conduct cases and Maxient software
Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work during HPU's winter break, if necessary
Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy
Able to work all shifts and extended hours
Upon hire, candidate must have reliable transportation to all HPU worksites and other locations as required by the position

Key Responsibilities:
1.Provide leadership and management of Housing and Residential Life (65%)
Formulate and implement a strategic vision for the department and continually ensure department goals and objectives support this vision
Provide overall management of housing facilities by maximizing use of StarRez software Responsible for occupancy issues including marketing, contracts, room assignments, summer conferences, and guest housing
Works closely with campus partners to develop and implement a residential education curriculum including collaboration with Academic Affairs to support living learning communities
Assist with campus facilities management and planning to ensure a safe and robust residential life experience
Ensure the security and safety of students and practice appropriate procedures for crisis response and risk management
Facilitate staff recruitment, selection, staff training, supervision and assessement includijg area coordinators (AC), community advisors (CA), and other members of residential life staff
Coordinate and participate in on-call duty responsibilities with residential life staff and student workers
Provide oversight of residence hall opening and closing procedures and logistics, including but not limited to early arrivals and extended stay.
Serve as budget officer overseeing all expenditures of the residence life accounts
Assist with the conferences and events program that utilize residential facilities in the summer months
Maintain, update and enforce housing policies and procedures. Educate and inform students about university policies and procedures, particularly housing policies and procedures.
Support the residential experience by implementing programming efforts incorporating three foundational values of Pono, Kuleana, and Aloha
2.Student Conduct and Wellness (30%)
Collaborate with other departments (e.g. Registrar's Office, Counseling and Behavioral Health, Residence Life, Security) on student concerns and issues
Facilitates alternative forms (i.e., mediation, restorative justice) of dispute resolution, when appropriate, and consult with the Dean of Students, Title IX Coordinator, and legal counsel regarding complex higher education legal and regulatory issues
Meet with students involved in high-level or escalated cases of concern to ensure appropriate follow-up and support
Serve as a conduct hearing officer, support case management, Maintain conduct records (non-academic) on Maxient and manage the central database, ensuring information is up-to-date for accurate record keeping of student conduct files, as needed
Serve as Title IX Deputy Coordinator, as needed, to investigate student to student cases
Assist with student emergencies and respond to high-level critical incident, including articipation in on-call rotation with team members to share emergency/crisis support and consultative assistance with on-call staff
Develop positive working relationships with other university departments and resources that serve students
5.Performs other related duties as assigned (5%)
Actively participates as an effective member of team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments
Serve on University committees and attend functions as a representative of the department.
