Description

The Director is responsible for the overall administration of the Arthur 0. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP). The Director implements and evaluates the program in accordance with grant specifications of the approved goals, objectives and activities to improve student achievement, retention, and graduation. The Director manages the approved budget based upon state guidelines and maintains partnerships with high schools and community organizations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate HEOP staff.

  • Ensure that eligible students are recruited, screened, assessed, and receive academic and counseling services.

  • Responsible for planning, development, and administration of the program, including directing the academic year and summer components.

  • Assess and evaluate program goals and activities; recommend changes to current policies and practices.

  • Maintain knowledge of and sensitivity to program students' needs, progress, development, performance problems and accomplishments.

  • Assist in the financial aid process as it relates to program students.

  • Provide academic counseling to all HEOP students, including students on academic probation and transfer students to set educational goals and make academic progress in coordination with Academic Services and academic advisors.

  • The director will also work in conjunction with the Office of Admission and Financial Aid as it relates to the needs of HEOP students.

  • Supervise the design and maintenance of the HEOP record-keeping systems.

  • Serve as liaison with the HEOP and the New York State Education Department.

  • Coordinate the development of HEOP recruitment documents.

  • Liaison with faculty and curricular design.

  • Prepare budget and oversee program budget.

  • Monitor budgets and expenses and comply with the guidelines set by the NYS Education Department.

  • Develop and submit all proposals and reports required by NYSED and the institution.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to work with diverse student, peer and professional populations.

  • The ability to represent Hilbert College to prospective students, families and public constituencies is expected.

  • Possess exceptional analytical and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Strong database experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.

  • Ability to interact and work effectively with all members of the Hilbert College community.

  • Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends.

  • Some travel will be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree required in Counseling, Higher Education, or related field.

  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in the higher education field.

  • Evidence of progressive responsibility in grant management and reporting.

  • A minimum of three years budgetary experience is required.

Compensation: $50,000 - $55,000
