East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Director of Graduate Studies, Research, and International Programs! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU's proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country's largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.

As the Director of Graduate Studies, Research, and International Programs you will need to think creatively and be comfortable delivering strategic direction and management to achieve departmental goals for the graduate studies, research, and international programs at ESU. You will be an active member of the academic affairs team and will work closely with the provost to promote scholarly excellence, advance the university's mission, and foster global engagement. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your higher education leadership background, and collaboration with diverse stakeholder's experience, all while cultivating a vibrant community conducive to cutting-edge research and graduate education. To be successful in this role the applicant must possess previous experience with graduate studies, a strong working knowledge of international programs guidelines, and have proven effective leadership skills.

Your normal hours will be Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Director of Graduate Studies, Research, and International Programs. There will be 10% travel required for the role mainly to local locations. When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming.

What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)

Strategic Planning & Policy Development

  • Develop and implement strategic plans, policies, and initiatives to enhance the quality, diversity, and competitiveness of graduate programs, research endeavors, and international programs.

  • Collaborate with faculty, department chairs, and other stakeholders to identify emerging trends and opportunities in graduate education, research, and internationalization.

  • Additional Duties as Assigned.

Program Development & Enhancement

  • Oversee the development, review, and assessment of graduate degree programs, ensuring alignment with institutional goals, accreditation standards, and global market demands.

  • Support the creation of international programs, partnerships, and initiatives to promote global learning experiences, cultural exchange, and international student recruitment.

  • Additional Duties as Assigned.

Student Recruitment & Retention

  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract a diverse pool of highly qualified graduate students, including international students.

  • Enhance student retention efforts by providing academic and professional development support, mentoring, and resources to promote student success in both domestic and international contexts.

Faculty Support & Development

  • Foster a supportive environment for faculty engaged in research, graduate education, and international collaboration, including providing resources, funding opportunities, and professional development activities.

  • Facilitate international faculty exchanges, collaborative research projects, and joint academic programs with partner institutions around the world.

  • Additional Duties as Assigned.

Research Administration & Compliance

  • Oversee the administration of research grants, contracts, and compliance with regulatory requirements, ensuring integrity and ethical conduct in research activities conducted domestically and internationally.

  • Promote international research collaborations and partnerships with institutions, organizations, and funding agencies worldwide to enhance research opportunities and global impact.

  • Additional Duties as Assigned.

International Programs Administration

  • Develop and manage international programs, study abroad opportunities, and exchange programs for students and faculty, ensuring alignment with academic goals, institutional policies, and relevant regulations.

  • Facilitate the integration of international perspectives, cross-cultural competency, and global awareness into the university's curriculum, research activities, and campus culture.

  • Additional Duties as Assigned.

Budget Management & Resource Allocation

  • Develop and manage the budget for graduate studies, research activities, and international programs, allocating resources effectively to support programmatic needs, faculty research, student funding, and global initiatives.

  • Identify and pursue external funding opportunities through grants, contracts, and philanthropic support to supplement institutional resources for internationalization efforts.

  • Additional Duties as Assigned.

Community Engagement & Outreach

  • Serve as a liaison between the university and external stakeholders, including international partners, government agencies, industry collaborators, alumni, and global communities, to promote international collaborations, technology transfer, and knowledge dissemination.

  • Represent the university at conferences, professional meetings, and other events to showcase research achievements, foster global partnerships, and enhance the university's global reputation.

  • Additional Duties as Assigned.

What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)

  • A doctoral degree or terminal degree (ABD considered) in a relevant field from an accredited institution.

  • Substantial experience in academia, including demonstrated leadership in graduate education, research, and administration.

  • Strong understanding of trends and best practices in graduate education, research administration, and scholarly publishing.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Proven track record of securing research funding, promoting interdisciplinary collaborations, and fostering innovation.

  • Knowledge of relevant policies, regulations, and compliance requirements related to graduate education, research, and sponsored projects.

  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in academic programs and research activities.

  • Experience or expertise in international education, global engagement, and cross-cultural communication.

  • Familiarity with international student recruitment strategies, immigration regulations, and support services for international students and scholars.

  • Demonstrated success in developing and managing international programs, partnerships, and exchanges in higher education or related fields.

  • Knowledge of internationalization trends, best practices, and accreditation standards in higher education.

  • Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.

  • Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
