The University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) Business School seeks a full-time Director for its two graduate programs in Health Administration. This individual will also hold an non-tenure track faculty position as an Instructor. One program is a traditional residential MBA in Health Administration. The other program is an executive MBA in Health Administration that is a hybrid face-to- face and online program.

The two CU Denver Health Administration Programs are the only two programs in Colorado accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). In addition, the health administration programs are ranked #17 and #22 in the United States by U.S. News & World Report.

The Program celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018, with its successful alumni in healthcare organizations throughout Colorado, the United States, and internationally.

Duties, and Responsibilities of the Program Director:

  • Maintains an active presence in the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Association of University Programs in Health Administration, the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education, Medical Group Management Association, and the Business School Alliance for Health Management.

  • Maintains and enhances the positive reputation of the academic programs as measured by national rankings and the applications for admission to each program.

  • Assures the programs meet the accreditation standards of CAHME, AACSB, and/or any other accrediting agency as appropriate.

  • Oversees the annual evaluation and periodic peer evaluation of faculty members in each of the two health administration programs.

  • Recruits new faculty members as needed.

  • Serves as Co-Chair of any committees involved in program planning, alumni relations, and curriculum modifications.

  • Teaches in at least one course in each health program, preferably the programs' capstone courses.

  • Has a positive relationship with practitioners in the healthcare field that will allow student placement for internships, jobs, field study assignments, etc

  • Effectively uses the Program's Health Advisory Board and the HA Alumni Board in making program recommendations. Recruits new members to these boards as appropriate.

  • Supervises and directs activities related to student recruitment as Chair of the Admissions Committee.

  • Advises students as needed regarding career options and academic problems.

  • Plays a key partnership role in fundraising activities for scholarships and other activities.

  • Maintains effective relationships with the leadership of the CU Denver Business School.

This person uses strategic enrollment management, effective student support services, supervision of MHA team members, and the development of a strong administrative structure. The Director works in concert with the MHA program leadership and Department of Health Professions (HEP) leadership team and collegiate leaders to develop systems and processes that advance graduate education and programs on campus and effectively promote and advance the needs of graduate faculty and students in a multifaceted centralized/decentralized organization. IND208 Duties/Responsibilities Graduate Enrollment Management 40% The MHA Director supports annual and long-range graduate enrollment goals and recruitment initiatives by providing leadership in the development, management, and execution of enrollment goals at the graduate levels. The Director and his/her/their staff will collaborate with HEP departmental leadership and university enrollment staff to understand the university and department's larger goals. This person provides data and forecasting tools that are essential to both short and long-term planning of the cash-funded/self sustaining graduate program, managing the complex individual needs and resources. The Director must be able to create strategies and establish systems where needs are identified. This involves creating systems that are aligned with the current structure as well as communication with university administration to build new processes that are responsive to unique aspects of graduate program needs. The Director must also be well-versed on current and emerging graduate enrollment trends from outside the university. The Director will establish and continuously advance metrics-based delineation and cyclical enrollment benchmarks in graduate enrollment efforts to inform resource management decisions and future strategies. The Director maps out the history of past enrollment, gathers market research for future growth, and studies the opportunities for maximizing graduate enrollments. The Director is aware of marketing and branding best practices as they relate to student recruitment and departmental growth strategies and, with his/her/their staff, partners with university staff to organize and execute both small and large marketing campaigns. Provides leadership in adhering to university brand standards and university marketing initiatives. Provides oversight on all marketing collateral and website content. The Director is responsible for course scheduling, faculty assignments, and the implementation of curriculum with accuracy and while optimizing resources and managing costs responsibly. Budget and Resource Development and Management 35% The Director strategically manages and forecasts revenue for the department, connecting enrollment management strategies and data to departmentally informed growth and development goals. Managing the complex intricacies of a department, with a cash-funded graduate program, the director tracks all expenses at a high-level to ensure an accurate reflection of distinct program costs and providing recommendations for optimizing available resources. Provides creative solutions and leadership to other cash-funded graduate programs while garnering support from upper administration on best practices. The Director participates in the advancement of policy and processes for cash-funded graduate programs at an institutional level to find effective ways to optimize departmental resources where state funds, cash funds, and grant funds are present. The Director is an active member on the HEP departmental leadership team, guiding discussion around the financial status of the Department and participates in resource allocation and strategic growth initiatives and goal setting. The Director advances the MHA, student services, administration and finance's budget and resources through effective communication and advocacy and also provides consultation and recommendations to the Chair and Director team on the development and needs of the MHA Program, and participates in advocating for additional resources from the College of Professional Studies and/or university. Oversight and Leadership of Graduate Student Services 15% The Director supervises and continually develops a strong operations team of higher education professionals who support graduate students throughout the entire student life cycle – from recruitment through alumni engagement. The director will provide leadership on graduate recruitment, admissions, advising, retention, completion, and alumni engagement efforts. The Director will identify varying services on campus for the graduate student, and create systems and processes when possible, to create efficiencies while advancing the student experience. The Director and his/her/their team will strive to enhance program diversity through promotion of efforts that identify, attract, recruit, enroll, and support students from diverse backgrounds that represent Colorado communities. The Director oversees the student services team's function as the data hub for the Department, providing student data, interpretations and consultation that supports accreditation requirements, grant writing, and other essential activities. The Director and his/her/their team leads marketing efforts as they relate to student recruitment and has knowledge of communications strategies that best platform the MHA program, the College of Professional Studies and the university. The Director will use their knowledge of merit-based scholarships as well as general scholarships and financial aid to positively impact graduate student yield and applies this knowledge to goal setting and planning. As with new and development offices and teams, the Director will be strategic and forward-thinking in effort of expanding the student services team in a measured and meaningful way- optimizing resources and creating efficiencies. Administration 10% The Director provides leadership in the development of a strong administrative structure, polices and systems that are capable of supporting the strategic goals and direction of the HEP Department. The Director appraises the College of Professional Studies, Office of Graduate Studies, and University policy and culture to offer solutions and recommendations for the administrative staff, technology, space, facilities, and other resources needed to achieve success with a graduate program. The Director provides initial consultation to weigh strengths and challenges of new projects, grants, and/or initiatives. The Director provides supervision to administrative staff that are in the Office of MHA. Required Qualifications * Master's degree in a Health Care Administration, Health Professions, MBA or related field. * Five years of related experience in higher education, health care administration, master's program administration, or relevant/related field. Preferred Qualifications * Three years of teaching experience at the undergraduate/graduate level in Health Care Administration, Health Professions or related field. * Thorough understanding of and experience with standard industry tools of marketing for recruitment and admission of students into a master's program. * Experience providing leadership to a student services team that supports the entire student life cycle. * Experience managing budgets with state, cash and/or grant funds. * Previous marketing and/or communications experience. * Experience in the recruitment and/or retention of first generation, underrepresented and ethnic minority students. * Success in partnering and developing rapport with multiple stakeholders including a demonstrated ability to build trust and confidence within stakeholder groups. * Experience in accreditation standards for higher education institutions. * Results-oriented and student-centric in approach. ion and accreditation standards.
