Purpose of Position
This position provides architectural leadership for all of Gilbarco's products that support the retail petroleum forecourt. This role will lead a global team of global architects who support engineering efforts across dispenser engineering, payments, forecourt controllers and remote management application with a concentration on software (embedded and application) and electronics. The role includes architecting and providing oversight to production quality embedded software for diverse applications including payment solutions, dispenser electronics, remote connectivity, low power sensing, voice/audio/audio streaming solutions, complex communication stacks including USB, Ethernet, wireless communication, integration with 3rd party libraries, driver development, RTOS/OS porting and usage, efficient and effective use of multi-core systems, and development of software libraries and demonstration systems. Must be a fast learner and able to rapidly conceptualize and implement robust solutions to complex problems within feature, power, and/or performance constraints.
The purpose of this role is to transform and reinvent GVR's technology and product leadership:
Drive technical dispenser and forecourt architecture and vision across the global family of dispensers, payment systems and solutions to extend leadership of GVR in the retail petroleum market
Build and drive open innovation partnerships to drive step improvements in time-to-market and better harness innovation
Build global engineering competency and excellence in GVR to achieve world class development cycles and quality spanning HW and SW
Drive standardization of core components
Deliver to the technical vision, strategy and architecture for GVR's product lines.
Lead and manage and drive architectural requirements and strategy for new/enhancement of new product development through the tollgate process.
Deploy a world-class software and systems architecture team that achieves product roadmap objectives on time, with high quality, and on budget.
Provide hands-on systems design experience and strong knowledge of general engineering best practices.
A history of developing products with multi-disciplinary teams (including Industrial Design, Research, Interaction, and Manufacturing)
A history of participating in the development of products from inception (marketing direction) to production.
Experience developing and delivering complex electro-mechanical products
Work with product planning and marketing to establish and maintain clear and actionable product roadmaps to ensure clarity of priority and focus integrating across multiple product lines. Define, maintain and implement associated technology roadmaps and innovation funnels.
Develop and lead open innovation partnerships across the eco-system to bring new ideas, enable turn-key development and improve the net output from product development
Lead capability and skill building across the team with a focus on lean/Agile development techniques, exceptional quality of delivery and driving discipline in engineering execution
Build and mentor the team and ensure clear and actionable employee development/succession planning
Enhance and continue to use of Global Development Center (GDC) partnerships in India and other low cost regions
Work with the Engineering FBS (Fortive Business System = Toyota Production System) lead to drive process improvements through engineering and build leads/MBB skills in key development tools

Key Skills and Experience
MS in computer or embedded systems engineering
Minimum 15 years of experience leading embedded systems development teams focused on SW with at least 5 years' experience in leading embedded systems and solutions architecture teams.
Direct leadership of global engineering teams with minimum size of 40 and minimum $10M budget
Good knowledge and understanding of retail operations and specifically, store operations, gained from working within a retail or c-store environment.
Must have experience working on distributed and embedded systems (Linux, Windows, Java, C , .NET), direct experience with Agile development
Clear understanding of Service Oriented Architecture and application development frameworks
Good knowledge and understanding of the software and electronic industry's best practices, development methodologies, and metrics.
Good facilitation and conflict resolution skills

Strong strategic planning skills proven track record creating vision and followership for executable strategies
