The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SoM) at The City College of New York (CCNY) located in the heart of Harlem, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success as the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, we transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine in 2017.

The CUNY SoM offers an accelerated BS/MD (7-year program) and a Physician Assistant Master's Degree (27 months program). True to its legacy of access, opportunity, and community transformation, the medical school's mission remains to recruit highly talented students as diverse as New York City itself. CUNY School of Medicine as the home of healers and leaders, places a special emphasis on the recruitment of those who are underrepresented in the field of medicine, and on training high quality, culturally competent health professionals and scientists equipped to address the healthcare needs of New York's medically under-served communities. As a major priority, CUNY School of Medicine also seeks to enhance the recruitment and retention of senior leadership, faculty, and staff to more closely reflect the diversity of our student body.

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Clinical Administration, Finance and Strategy, and working with the Director of Finance and Budgeting, this position is responsible for strategic financial planning and management, reporting and budgeting for the CUNY School of Medicine in fulfillment of the school's mission. The Director will provide leadership and support to assist in decision-making and optimizing efficiency based on priorities established by the Associate Dean and the Dean, S/he will collaborate with CCNY and CUNY financial leadership to support the medical school's operations and the Dean's strategic initiatives.

This position will provide focused analytical data and oversee the reconciliation and reporting on all CUNY School of Medicine financial accounts. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for the thorough and accurate financial analysis of factors that may impact the medical school's operating budget, as well as on-going development of budget policies and best practices and procedural improvements in a confidential and professional manner. S/he will communicate and present financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, typical duties included but are not limited to the following:

  • Support strategic, mission-driven, long-range financial planning. Work closely with senior leadership to establish priorities that will advance the medical school's financial planning and management in support of key initiatives, operations and the dean's strategic priorities, and to facilitate decision-making and resource allocation strategies at the medical school.+ Conceptualize, develop and recommend long-range resource allocation plans.+ Prepare annual and multiple year medical school operating budgets and financial models for review and approval of the dean and the leadership of CUNY.+ Assist in the development of strategic financial planning for new clinical affiliation partner hospital programs including possible residency programs and tuition waiver programs.+ Assist in the development of strategic financial planning for new school of medicine masters and certificate programs.+ Direct the monitoring of program performance against operating budget; make annual projections, and advise senior leadership on implications of financial decisions for future budget cycles.+ Recommend and implement strategies and policies to help ensure that the medical school meets its financial objectives.+ Oversee liaison with deans, department chairs and program directors regarding unit budgets and financial matters, and assist in the development of their budgets where necessary; facilitate the review, approval and processing of budget modification requests as appropriate, and ensure timely responses to departmental budget issues and questions.+ Address budget issues from departments as they arise, regarding use and re-allocation of funds, carry-over of unused funds, department organization changes and realignments, etc.+ In consultation with the Dean and the Associate Dean for Clinical Administration, Finance and Strategy, review and approve position requisitions and modifications, ensuring alignment with the Dean's strategic priorities; ensure administrative units and academic departments have sufficient funds to support new salary line requests.+ Lead the review of school-wide salary adjustment requests based on merit and relevant university, market and AAMC data.

    Perform analyses to ensure adjustments are appropriate and within the budgeted allotments.+ Direct the preparation of documents and materials for CUNY Board of Trustees committee meetings.+ Analyze and report on restricted fund activities, including research and other sponsored activities, including external funds, gifts, etc.+ Synthesize complex financial data and analysis into meaningful presentations and reports, identifying significant issues in program resources, expenditures and trends.+ Develop and ensure timely submission of annual financial reports to accrediting bodies, and other offices as required.+ Assist on matters related to the , renewal and payment of vendor, consultant and hospital contracts; respond to requests for information related to contracts and provide ongoing support during the contract terms.+ In collaboration with the I.T. Director and the Associate Dean for Clinical Administration, Finance and Strategy, ensure that the academic programs, faculty and staff have the requisite technology tools and infrastructure to effectively carry out their work.+ Maintain documentation of business processes, financial reporting standards and data sources.+ Remain abreast of University and Research Foundation policies, protocols and procedures; provide guidance and advise medical school leadership on financial implications of these policies.+ Participate in committees. Manage special projects with a focus on schedules, budget and functionality;
  • Play an integral leadership role in CUNY Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) initiative;
  • Serve as a liaison between the Medical School and CUNY for financial management matters;

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and eight years' related experience required.

Preferred - Masters degree. At least eight years of experience in progressively responsible financial management and leadership positions.

  • Manages day-to-day accounting functions including staff supervision in relation to closings, reconciliations and analyses+ Oversees the accuracy and integrity of all financial statements, revenue projections and other reports as required+ Develops effective policies and procedures for fiscal operations, and incorporates

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$129,310 - $141,858

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
