The Financial Aid Department

The Financial Aid department at Kalamazoo Valley works alongside the Kalamazoo Promise, to ensure benefits are utilized to the full extend for our students. A team of several financial aid representatives, advisors and directors collaborate with multiple departments across the college to provide an exceptional experience for our students. Staff are supported with multiple avenues for professional development and growth.

About the Opportunity

Kalamazoo Valley is seeking a full-time Director of Financial Aid to serve as the primary operations and compliance officer in all aspects of the financial aid process. This position will plan, direct and evaluate the operational, financial and personnel activities of the Financial Aid Department.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Recommend hire, orient, train and evaluate departmental employees.

  • Monitor and coordinate staff development and training programs, and, through the supervisor and the Human Resources department, develop effective human resources practices.

  • Provide administrative leadership and supervision.

  • Prepare annual operating budget recommendations.

  • Develop, implement and monitor assigned budgets.

  • Develop, implement and administer departmental operating policies and procedures.

  • Approve or delegate authority to approve the disbursement or authorization of financial aid to students.

  • Advise institutional administrators on matters regarding student financial aid.

  • Supervise the preparation of statistical operating and planning records and/or reports.

  • Research and remain current on changing state and federal regulations pertaining to student financial aid.

  • Supervise or delegate supervision of the department's computer operations/data base requirements.

  • Establish and develop working relationships with high school counselors.

  • Advise potential or existing donors regarding procedures and alternatives for establishing scholarships, grants and or loan funds.

Minimum Qualifications:

Appropriate education, training, experience and talents are requirements. An example of this would be a Master's Degree in Student Services or a related field and experience equivalent to 4 years of student personnel work including 2 years supervisory experience.

Knowledge and Skill Desired:

  • State and Federal financial aid laws, rules and regulations.

  • Institutional financial aid practices and procedures.

  • Budgeting principles and practices.

  • Acceptable supervisory practices.

  • Institutional policies and procedures.

  • Planning and coordinating a comprehensive financial aid function.

  • Planning and directing the work of subordinates.

  • Researching and analyzing data and reports.

  • Making oral and written presentations.
