Family Assistance Ministries (FAM), based in San Clemente, CA, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing essential support and resources to individuals and families in need. Our mission is to assist people in need with food, shelter, and personalized coaching on their journey to independence.

We are seeking a Director of Finance to serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team. This position provides leadership and administration of the overarching responsibilities of the finance department through direct oversight and delegation to reports, which include accounts payable, fiscal planning, grants and contractual management.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Accounting, or related field required. CPA or MBA highly preferred.

  • Minimum 10+ years of finance management experience, with 5+ years in a senior management role as a Controller, Director of Finance, or similar role.

  • Minimum 5 years of direct supervisory experience managing finance staff of two or more.

  • Proficient with the latest technology and can quickly learn and manage multiple software platforms.

  • Advanced accounting software experience required. QuickBooks experience highly preferred.

  • Advanced grant management and billing experience required.

  • Extensive GAAP & GAGAS knowledge with experience overseeing diverse grant contract allocations for federal, state, and county contracts.

  • Fluent in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Strong written, verbal, communication, and analytical skills.

  • Proven experience overseeing diverse federal, state, and county contract expenditures in a non-profit organization with a revenue of $3M or more.

  • Advance knowledge of creating annual, department, and program budgets.

  • Advanced knowledge of nonprofit accounting, allocations, compliance, and tax-exempt requirements.

  • Experience overseeing accounts payable, employee benefits and compensation, human resources functions, and employee 401K contributions.

  • Highly organized with the ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and achieve multiple competing deadlines.

  • Proven milestones and achievements in previous roles with building a progressive positive financial history for organizational budgeting.

  • High commitment to transparency and commitment to open communication to chief executive.

Travel

  • Local travel - must have reliable transportation, valid driver license and current auto insurance.

Work Schedule

  • Regular schedule will be Monday through Friday 8-5pm, on call & after hours as needed, plus attend events/functions in the evening and/or on weekends. (Director roles require to participate/attend at least 75% of key FAM events, or as requested)

  • This position is an on-site at San Clemente headquarters, with the possibility of accommodating remote workdays as needed. After achieving key goals and priorities within the first 12 months of hire, there may be an option for a hybrid 4 days on-site and 1 day remote.

  • Due to volume of workload and dependent on candidate's skillset/ability to prioritize, 40+ workweek in the first 90 days should be highly anticipated.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting salary is $110,000-$140,000/year.

  • Full medical, vision, dental. FAM pays 100% of the premium for the employee's coverage in the medical and dental plans; 50% of the vision premium for the employee.
