Reporting to the Head of the School, the Director of Finance serves as a member of the Executive Council and works closely with the Board Finance Committee to ensure the financial obligations of the school are met and that the school operates in a fiscally sound manner. The incumbent should understand strategies to help the school meet institutional goals and maximize the use of school funds. The successful candidate will be a detail-oriented, strategic thinker with strong business acumen and interpersonal skills who will oversee the school’s financial operations and use financial tools to support the school’s mission and strategic plan.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Partnering with the Head of School to strategically align school resources to achieve the school’s mission and strategic plan. Preparing financial reports, timely, which are reported to school leadership, the Finance Committee, and the Board of Trustees.

Ensuring all financial records are compliant with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and any other applicable standards. Establishing internal control policies and procedures for the Finance Office. Overseeing team members to accurately:

Manage the cash flow of the school, including accounts payable, receivables, payroll, retirement accounts, and any other school-supported financial service. Manage school funds to ensure it follows the investment policies of the board. Evaluate the insurance products of the school.

Prepare financial records for an annual independent audit, form 990, and other state and federal forms. Maintain compliance with all federal and state financial reporting requirements. Complete bank reconciliations, general ledger entries, and monthly closing procedures.

Assisting with the annual budget and audit preparation and approval. Supervising members of the Finance Office, School Store, and IT. Working closely with the admissions office on creating and analyzing the annual enrollment contract for students.

Qualifications: Independent school experience is highly desirable. A master’s degree and five years of experience in financial management is preferred. A mission-driven individual who demonstrates an eagerness to serve in a faith-based academic environment & genuine ability to connect with and serve people in a Christian community.

Communications: Effective written, oral, verbal, and editing communication skills. Should be able to adapt communication style to suit different audiences. Collaboration: Has a service mentality and ability to work with multiple internal and external stakeholders, including students, families, faculty, staff, and community partners.

Have specific vision abilities required by this job, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work with noise levels in the work environment that can be loud or quiet. Manage equipment, including a phone, computer, cameras, video equipment, and other electronic devices.
