South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks highly motivated and qualified candidates for the position of Director of Facilities.

The Director of Facilities reports directly to the Vice President for Finance and Operations

initiates, implements and coordinates institutional support services, physical plant operations and capital construction projects.

  • Staff and Faculty of Color (SFOC) ERG - an employee network which strives to create an intentional and relational foundation for community and trust building across different groups through shared values.

  • The LGBTQIA+ ERG creates a space for LGBTQIA+ staff and faculty at the college to share resources, build support and community, and work towards greater equity and accessibility.

  • Facilitates the preparation of the college master plan and any updates as necessary.

  • Prepares and monitors college 10-year capital plan. Manages Capital Construction projects; acts as a member of the selection team for hiring architectural and engineering firms. Prepares and monitors college design and construction standards.

  • Prepares and monitors project budgets and updates as current costs are known; coordinates timely reviews of program, pre-design, schematic, design development and construction phases and acts as lead site representative and owner testing service representative. Coordinate project activities to minimize impact to departments and programs. Maintains complete and accurate project files.

  • Provides direct supervision for the Assistant Director of Facilities, Capital Project Manager, Energy and Sustainability Program Manager, Custodial Manager and clerical staff assigned to the Director of Facilities, including work assignments, evaluation and training.

  • Provides for the proper care of all college facilities and grounds; conducts in-house facility and grounds audits to identify repairs and annual emphasis of Remodeling and Minor Improvement fund; prepares a campus landscape master plan and infrastructure master plan to work in conjunction with the facilities master plan.

  • Oversight responsibility of fiscal accountability and project account management; including cost estimates, budgets, and certifying payments.

  • Prepares documentation for biennial capital budget request through a process of coordination with affected college departments and the college as a whole.

  • Coordinates and maintains college energy conservation programs with emphasis on maximizing value received from state appropriations. Work with Washington State Department of Enterprises, E & AS and local utilities to identify alternate construction options and auxiliary funding sources.

  • Coordinates and maintains the Facility Operations Management Systems, including report analysis. Coordinate preparation o f the capital requests and other required reports, surveys, etc. to DES, OFM, SBCTC, and the state legislature.

  • Coordinates and maintains a college recycling program, emphasizing conserving resources, minimizing disposal costs, educating staff and generating revenue.

  • Acts as college representative to state facilities related committees and organizations.

  • Fosters teambuilding, a reverence for respect, knowledge building, and the ability to cultivate an inclusive environment where diversity, multi-cultural and experiential learning thrives.

  • Assumes other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Finance and Operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Facilities Management, Business Administration, Engineering OR a combination of equivalent education and experience.

  • Five or more years of experience in areas such as facility operations and maintenance, capital project management, and personnel management.

  • Two years' experience managing operating and capital budgets.

  • Experience managing construction projects.

  • Demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in facility planning, including the ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints, schematics, municipal code, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to think critically, creatively, and reflectively by using analysis and critical thinking skills to solve problems; ensuring decisions align with strategic direction of the college; and, showing insight into root-causes of problems while generating solutions and courses of action.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively and maintain cooperative and harmonious working relationships with students, faculty and staff.

  • Strong team attitude and approach to work; the ability and willingness to share ideas, to be open to the ideas of others and to work toward organizational goals and interests.

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in high-stress environments and with conflicting priorities.

  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.

  • Valid Washington State Driver's License.

  • Ability to travel between campuses for meetings and appointments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree.

  • Experience working with the State of Washington Public Works environment.

  • Knowledge of the SBCTC capital projects programs and capital budgeting process.

  • Technical trade licenses for related construction fields.

  • Architectural or engineering experience.

  • Experience with maintenance management software such as Megamations.
