Job Summary

Under the direction of the Associate Superintendent of Business Services, organizes and directs the construction, alteration and renovation of District buildings, serves as the District representative in the phases of planning and developing new facilities and for renovation and construction projects under the deferred maintenance program, State Building Program, Mello-Roos, and other General Obligation Bonds; ensuring that jobs are completed efficiently and within regulatory guidelines and project deadlines; preparing and managing the annual budget for the Facilities Department. This is a classified management position.

Requirements / Qualifications

Training and Experience Any combination equivalent to college level training in architecture, municipal planning, engineering, construction, or related field, and substantial responsible work experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity in facilities, construction, the building trades, or related field, preferably in a school district environment.

Knowledge of General building/construction codes related to school facilities and planning. Principles of building design.

Tools, materials, working practices, and methods of the building trades. Methods of administrative planning and analysis. Laws and regulations related to maintenance of school buildings and grounds.

Analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Requirements for maintaining the buildings and grounds of a school district in a safe, clean, and orderly condition. Electronic and manual recordkeeping practices.

State School Building application process. Demographic and enrollment projecting. Real property sale and acquisition.

Sale of surplus school sites. Principles of real estate transactions. Environmental impact reporting.

Principles and practices of budget preparation and cost control. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. Principles and practices of administration, supervision, and training.

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. Ability to Read, interpret, and apply provisions of federal, state, and local regulations and statutes applicable to school facilities. Prepare and interpret building plans and specifications.

Perform algebra and/or geometry. Collect, organize, and analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes. Problem-solve with data requiring prescribed guidelines and utilizing a variety of types of job-related equipment. Licenses Possession of a valid California Driver's License.

A limited number of candidates demonstrating the strongest qualifications will be invited to appear before a panel at the end of May that will appraise general and technical qualifications through an oral examination. Those candidates in the top three ranks will be invited to participate in a final selection interview. The final selection interview will be scheduled approximately 7-14 days after participation in the general and technical qualification examination. The person selected will serve a probationary period of one year.
