Director of Facilities

Purpose: The Director of Facilities is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all Leavenworth Public Schools physical properties and grounds. The Director will work with a diverse group of staff- vendors- and contractors to accomplish this task. The Director must have good oral and written communication as they will communicate with department staff- district staff- the board of Education- and community members regularly. The Director will be responsible for guiding the department to maintain clean- safe- and compliant facilities.

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer and/or Superintendent

Supervises: Building and Grounds Employees

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of increasing responsibility related to management- facilities operation- custodial and construction trades.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • A valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Trade or technical certification

  • Associate or Bachelor`s degree in facility-related field

Essential Job Functions

  • Directs the maintenance and the operation of the school facilities.

  • Assist in recruiting- interviewing and placing maintenance and custodial personnel.

  • Develops specifications- bidding documents and cost estimates for all projects and equipment being considered for maintenance and operation of the district facilities.

  • Assists in preparing and administering a budget.

  • Assists with the planning of new constructions- additions and/or alterations to present buildings.

  • Monitors all building projects and calls the attention of the architects and the CFO to any oversights or deficiencies.

  • Monitors all time sheets of all employees under his/her supervision.

  • Develop cost estimates for labor- material and overhead to be used for repair projects.

  • Reports on cost of work done- materials- used and labor expended when requested.

  • Directs establishment of regular preventive maintenance programs and energy conservation.

  • Develops and recommends priorities on repair projects.

  • Administers the necessary laws and regulations related to safety and the maintenance and operation of the schools.

  • Directs and monitors compliance with federal law as it relates to all buildings and grounds

  • Monitors the legal requirements that pertain to the daily operations of maintenance and operations.

  • Develops and updates policies and manuals related to the maintenance and operations.

  • Develops enclosures and makes requested presentations at the board meetings.

  • Performs other essential functions and duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions

  • Requires physical exertion to manually move- lift- carry- pull- or push heavy objects or materials.

  • Ability to manually lift a maximum of 60 pounds.

  • Requires stooping- kneeling- crawling- bending- turning- climbing- balancing- and reaching.

  • Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.

  • Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments- with numerous interruptions.

  • Must work in and around dust- fumes- and odors

General Responsibilities

  • Ability to assist in maintaining school buildings and grounds in top condition.

  • Ability to assist in promoting the safety- health- and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds.

  • Ability to maintain a high standard of safety- cleanliness- and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects.

  • Ability to move equipment and materials within and between school buildings.

  • Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times.

  • Keep current on new information- innovative ideas and techniques.

  • Ability to respond to information requests in a cooperative- courteous- and timely manner.

  • Ability to keep information and records confidential.

  • Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies- including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.

  • Ability to perform other duties and assume other responsibilities assigned.

  • Ability to maintain school grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.

  • Ability to ensure all activities conforms to district guidelines.

  • Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.

  • Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner- and handle other tasks as assigned.

  • Ability to operate all equipment and machinery appropriately as necessary.

  • Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the district.

  • Maintain all facility records and blueprints.

  • Maintain records of all regulated/mandatory inspections and training.
