Job Summary General Summary/basic PURPOSE OF JOB: The Director of Environmental Services and Patient Transportation reports to the VP of Operations and is responsible for the planning, coordinating, and directing for the overall operation of the Environmental Services and Patient Transportation Departments of Mount Sinai Hospital.
The Director shall effectively operate the department, continually improve the department's processes and outcomes, comply with hospital policy and procedures, efficiently and effectively manage finances and resources, promote teamwork and customer satisfaction, and align the department services into the organization's KPIs and strategic plan for the delivery of an excellent patient, visitor and caregiver experience.

QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Facilities Management, Hospital Administration, Environmental Studies, is required.
A minimum of 10 years Environmental Services experience preferred with 5 -7 years management experience is required.
Experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
Experience with union workforce preferred.
Knowledge of Joint Commission, OSHA, and Infection Control guidelines is desirable.
Ability to communicate (both verbal and written) effectively with clients, customers of the client and support staff

Promotes culture of cleanliness, infection control, safety, and customer service. Ensures appropriate scheduling to accomplish daily tasks and special projects. Trains and evaluates staff in areas of cleaning and safety; disciplines staff as required. Maintains departmental quality assurance program. Ensures safe and efficient use of chemicals and supplies. # Reports to: Director of Environmental Services and Central Sterile Processing Supervises: EVS Technicians PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Supervises day-to-day work activities of EVS personnel to ensure appropriate cleaning of patient care areas, offices, and common areas and strict adherence to established safety, infection control, cleaning procedures. Assists the Director in performance evaluation process. May recommend disciplinary actions. 2. Promotes culture of cleanliness, safety, and customer service both within EVS department and throughout hospital. 3. Schedules and assigns EVS personnel to accomplish required tasks and special projects. 4. Develops adequate policies and procedures governing cleaning and safety. Monitors adherence of EVS staff and other hospital personnel to relevant cleaning, infection control and safety policies. Works with managers of other departments to ensure compliance of non-EVS staff. 5. Develops and maintains EVS quality assurance program through proper supervision and tools established by the department director. Identifies required remediation of staff and processes. 6. Identifies and maintains suitable staff to work in EVS department. Interviews candidates, develops appropriate training and education for EVS Techs in cleaning and safety, administers formal and informal training, disciplines staff as necessary. 7. Ensures appropriate maintenance and usage of equipment and supplies. Monitors utilization and purchasing of supplies. Works with Plant Operations to ensure appropriate preventive maintenance is performed on equipment, if necessary. 8. Communicates and coordinates with other departments to ensure clean hospital appearance. Notifies departments and individuals of upcoming projects that may impact normal operations. Serves on committees to enhance cleanliness of hospital as required. 9. Works with Admitting and Nursing departments to identify patient discharges. Monitors appropriate cleaning of patient rooms after patient discharge to ensure room is ready for next admission. Notifies Plant Operations of issues with patient rooms and other areas that may impact normal operations. Notifies Admitting department when room is ready to accept next admission. 10. Administers hospital policies within department. Monitors and ensures adherence of EVS staff to hospital policies. 11. Fills-in and provides assistance for EVS Technicians as required. Able to perform all cleaning tasks required of all EVS Techs. 12. Serves on hospital committees and task forces and performs other hospital-wide assignments and duties as identified. 13. Supports the Mission and Vision of RML Specialty Hospital by demonstrating RML#s Values of Service, Teamwork, Accountability, Integrity, Respect and Stewardship (STAIRS) in all actions. Promotes a positive customer experience by exemplifying the principles of the Language of Caring in all interactions with patients, families and co-workers. 14. Manage and monitor linen ordering and timely delivery of clean linens and pick up of soiled linens from patient floors and in all shifts. 15. Organize and keep clean the EVS storage room, linen room, EVS closets. Skills # Abilities - Minimum Physical ability necessary to frequently lift moderate weights of linen/trash, push loaded carts, operate machinery, moving furniture, stripping floors. Ability to use computer programs for quality assurance, scheduling, basic financial analysis, and memo writing. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Willingness to #do what it takes# to ensure cleanliness of hospital environment. Knowledge # Experience Minimum Expertise in all areas of hospital cleaning and safety sufficient to develop policies and procedures and instruct others on appropriate cleaning and safety techniques. High school graduate. Preferred Previous supervisory experience License/Certification N/A Working Conditions Regular exposure to dust, dirt, unpleasant odors, etc. Handling of infectious, biological, and sharp unclean materials. Contact with strong cleaning and disinfecting solutions. Works with machinery, e.g., floor strippers, equipment. ccasionally works weekends and off-shift as required.
