Overview:

The Director of Equity and Title IX Coordinator serves in a highly visible key leadership role and is responsible for development, delivery and oversight of initiatives related to preventing and providing redress for unfair treatment based on legally protected characteristics for Lawrence University students, faculty and staff. This position supports the University's efforts to provide an equitable, diverse and inclusive environment in which to work and learn by supporting the prompt and appropriate response to reports of harassment and discrimination including those related to Title IX and other applicable laws, policies or regulations. This role reports to the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Director of Equity & Title IX Coordinator works to ensure institutional compliance with the Higher Education Act, the Title IX of the Education Amendments of the 1972 Civil Rights Act ("Title IX"), the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization of 2013 ("VAWA"), the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act ("Campus SaVE"), the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics (Clery Act), Title III, Title VII, ADA/504, and other related federal and state laws across Lawrence University and it's accompanied areas.

The TIXC may intake reports, provide oversight and compliance of investigations of complaints of alleged discrimination and harassment, provide investigation, and adjudication of reports and formal complaints, ensures accuracy in reporting annual crime statistics, and monitors intercollegiate participant rosters and resources to ensure compliance with the law. The TIXC performs duties of a complex, technical, and confidential nature and functions independently within the guidelines of the University's personnel policies and regulations, coordinates with all appropriate unit heads, and exercises considerable judgment and initiative in planning, organizing, and completing assignments.

The duties and responsibilities of the Director of Equity and Title IX Coordinator include compliance efforts inclusive of, but not limited to:

  • Education and prevention for the Lawrence community

  • Training and Programming related to the focus areas of equity, non-discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct

  • Consultation, Oversight, Investigation, and Disposition

  • IDEAS Related Institutional Monitoring and Compliance Assurance

  • Advising the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and other University Officials

  • Policy Development, Enforcement, and Correction

Working Relationships:

  • Provide support as needed to the Campus Advocate

  • Manage working relationships with external agencies contracted to support Lawrence Case needs

  • Provide necessary conduct checks as requested by Student Life

  • Work with resources on campus such as the Registrar, Financial Aid, Accessibility Support Services, Housing, and the Center for Academic Success, Counseling and Wellness Services, and Campus Safety to organize support on behalf of parties

  • Develop relationships with community resources to ensure continued access for the Lawrence community

  • Work closely with SHARE and SAASHA committees to provide vision, mission, direction, and collaborative educational efforts

  • Collaborate with campus departments to ensure accuracy in reporting annual crime statistics, as required by the Jeanne Clery Act

  • Work collaboratively and effectively with other University departments

  • Serve on University committees as requested.

  • Provide quarterly updates and aggregate data report directly to the President

  • Contribute to the overall success of the University by performing other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, experience in compliance and/or higher education administration required

  • Graduate degree in a related field desirable

  • Minimum three years of experience; strong knowledge of Title IX, nondiscrimination, equal opportunity and other applicable laws and regulations

  • Knowledge of and experience in the resolution of issues related to gender-based harassment and discrimination

  • Knowledge of and experience in the resolution of issues related to preventing unfair treatment based on legally protected classifications

  • Ability to manage simultaneous complex and time sensitive tasks with accuracy while maintaining appropriate records and adherence to established procedures

  • Experience in creation and delivery of programming designed to create positive culture change in a higher education environment

  • Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality

  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with a variety of constituencies
