Department Summary:

The Environmental Services Department ensures environmental compliance for CMS Energy. This includes developing regulatory compliance strategy and programs, performing remediation and developing environmental sustainability strategies and programs.

The successful candidate will be responsible for directing the development of compliance strategies for environmental regulations pertaining to air, water and land. This will involve identifying, evaluating and commenting on proposed regulations and communicating their possible impact to Consumers Energy's corporate strategy. The position also requires supporting plant or facility operations as they implement the recommended compliance strategy.

A considerable aspect of this position is to remain abreast of the changing environmental technical and regulatory landscape. It also includes coordinating project teams both internal and external to the Company, developing a compliance strategy and managing that strategy's scope, budget and schedule. This position involves significant interface and negotiations with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality as well as some interface with state and federal legislators, local governmental officials, trade organizations and the general public.

The position will likely require public speaking, panel discussions, corporate presentations and briefings to Sr. Management so a confirmed ability to interact within a variety of public speaking circumstances is necessary.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage, monitor and graphically depict progress on environmental metrics

  • Ensure regular communication with business partners to provide environmental data and progress towards their environmental goal metrics

  • Work closely with Environmental Services Program managers (SMEs) to understand and gather data related to compliance metrics

  • Present/communicate progress to management or corporate communications

  • Ensure compliance programs are robust and deadlines are met

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering or scientific/technical degree is required
  • A Master's degree is preferred
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in environmental compliance
  • A minimum of 3+ years' experience utility industry

  • Experience and working knowledge of technical programs, graphing and data management

Department Summary This position reports to the Vice President of Operations Performance. The purpose of the Distribution Performance team is to enable field operations teams to achieve continual improvement and Breakthrough performance objectives in the Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Morale Key Performance Indicators. The Operations Performance teams are responsible for deploying the CE Way as well as work management processes and systems across the state. The Director of Operation Performance in Distribution Operations is responsible for the recruitment, development and engagement of the team who are embedded with Field Operations to train, coach and support Operations field leaders in deployment of the lean toolkit that accompanies the Consumers Energy Way. Additionally, this leader and their team monitor performance of key metrics across the state and engage with Field Operations Leaders to reverse adverse performance trends and ensure continual improvement toward annual performance goals. Responsibilities * Lead the deployment of the Consumers Energy Way, Work Management systems and technology to enable companywide Gas and Electric Distribution Operations to deliver world class customer experience and transform costs. * Partner with executive leadership in Field Operations to drive continual improvement in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Morale through the application of standardization, business plan deployment, visual management and problem solving in Work Management and Service Centers to ensure achievement of annual business objectives and Breakthrough Goals. * Determine resources required, create the business case, select and develop a talented team of professionals to partner with Field Operations team members and drive engagement and learning with Field Crews and Field Leadership. * Utilize internal and external learning opportunities to evolve team members into capable and knowledgeable Lean practitioners capable of both applying and teaching key concepts. * Collaborate and maintain strong interdependence with Operations Business Services and Operations Support teams. * Drive deployment of Consumers Energy Way concepts, Field Mobility Technology, Analytics and Quality Systems tools across Field Operations and ensure Field Operations inputs and requirements are met in the development of systems and processes. * Collaborate with key business partners to identify and implement required Break Through Goals and Continuous Improvement Rally Rooms across Distribution Operations. * Ensure development and deployment of problem solving tools and processes across Distribution Operations to support CE Way implementation. * Lead the Distribution Performance teams to achieve annual business plan objectives in the areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Morale. Maintain development and succession plans for each position and provide mentoring and developmental support for team members throughout the team. Requirements * Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Quality, Science or Technical Field. * Minimum 5 years of experience in leadership including leading leaders. * Minimum 5 years of experience working in a lean business operating system.
