The Director, EHS works collaboratively with the management team to help ensure that a robust, continuous-improvement based Environmental, Health and Safety Management System is in place and managed effectively. The EHS Management System includes provisions for establishing EHS related goals and metrics, programs to ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations, injury and Illness prevention programs, and Safety Leadership. The Director has dotted line reporting to the Segment HSE leader. The EHS Director must lead by example to establish and maintain a safety culture where working safely is a company and employee value and a belief that zero is attainable. The position includes hands-on application of technical safety knowledge, risk identification and problem resolution. The Director supervises the EHS Specialists. The contract Nurse dotted line reports to the EHS Director.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
This person will be responsible for timely government reporting and compliance with applicable Safety, Health, and Environmental federal, state, and local regulations.
Organizes and maintains OSHA/EPA mandated records with EHS team
Prepares reports and presentations for Segment and Corporate management
Prepares and shares plant safety related messages through multiple channels, establishes and reports performance on key safety metrics (both leading and lagging).
Reviews all site capital and new chemical requests for potential EHS impact
Facilitates compliance with all EHS requirements noted in the bargaining unit labor contract
Develops and delivers effective employee EHS initial and refresher training modules
Identifies opportunities for cost and waste reduction
Tracks incident corrective actions to closure and shares the learnings across the site and within the Segment
Responds to stakeholder requests that are EHS related
Market the benefits of EHS across the Americas as well as represent the Americas EHS to corporate
Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, particularly those pertaining to lock/tag/try (energy control), machine guarding, and cranes & hoists
Knowledge of industrial hygiene risk-based monitoring programs, particularly noise and MWFs
Experience working with regulatory agencies and with regulatory audits
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent MS Office Suite skills, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Demonstrated project management skills. Effective identification and management of identified issues through validated closure.
Ability to effectively work with both shop floor workers and senior management
Knowledge and (preferably) implementation of EHS Management Systems such as OHSAS 18001, OSHA VPP, ISO 14001, etc.
Education and work Experience:
15+ years EHS experience in chemicals, metal working, or other manufacturing environments.
CSP or CIH preferred.
