The University of Virginia seeks applications for a Director of Enrollment Intelligence and Analytics. This is an ideal opportunity for a business or data analyst with a strong record of helping colleagues and/or clients ask important questions, answer them with evidence, and use the answers to strengthen performance and improve lives.

The Director will build capacity for evidence-based decision-making and reporting throughout UVA Enrollment and its four constituent units: Student Financial Services, the Office of Undergraduate Admission, the Office of the University Registrar, and the Virginia College Advising Corps. In doing so, the Director will strengthen the excellence, diversity, success, and sense of community of the student body; deepen service to students, schools, and communities throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia; and advance the mission of the University.

The Director will be a caring, curious, and creative professional with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and clients who have differing skills, perspectives, and backgrounds. The Director will report to the Vice Provost for Enrollment and serve as a member of the senior leadership team in Enrollment.

This position will:

  • Design, lead, and assess strategies to help every colleague in Enrollment gain confidence in their ability to ask critical questions and answer those questions with evidence.

  • Build capacity for action-oriented collection, visualization, and analysis of data.

  • Lead efforts to create statistical and other evidence-informed models that advance UVA's goals for enrollment and its strategy for admission, scholarships, financial aid, student success, and service to communities across the Commonwealth.

  • Work closely with the Director of Enrollment Communications to make sure communications and marketing efforts are grounded in sound intelligence.

  • Lead efforts to continuously assess and refine enrollment strategies based on evolving data insights, market trends, and institutional goals.

  • Monitor external research in enrollment, admission, student finances, records and registration, access and opportunity, and related fields; identify and share examples to inform decisions about strategy and operations.

  • Establish and maintain data governance policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and security of enrollment-related data.

  • Cultivate and maintain collaborative and mutually beneficial relationships with faculty and staff in other divisions and departments-for example, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Institutional Research and Analytics, Education and Human Development, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion-whose research or administrative interests are aligned with the interests of Enrollment.

  • In partnership with Institutional Research and Analytics, ensure accurate and effective reporting of enrollment data.

  • In consultation with senior leaders in Enrollment, develop a plan for staffing and structuring efforts to gather and use intelligence throughout the organization.

The successful candidate must have a bachelor's degree with at least three years of experience; seven years of experience or a master's degree with five years of experience is preferred.

In addition to previous success in business or data analysis-preferably in higher education, either as a team member or an external consultant-the successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Ability to think strategically and creatively, and to understand and build upon the strategic and creative thinking of others.

  • Ability to inspire curiosity in colleagues and to help them learn how to gather and assess data and other evidence.

  • Empathy for students who are navigating the challenges of admission, financial aid, and enrollment, and for those who believe higher education is beyond their reach, as well as for their loved ones, teachers, counselors, and other influencers.

  • Ability to build and sustain close and collaborative relationships with colleagues, and to organize and lead them to produce top-quality and strategically effective work.

  • Exemplary communication skills.

  • Skill in advancing priorities related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

UVA Enrollment is committed to caring for students from their first contact with UVA through graduation and beyond; to competing for the loyalty of students whose excellence and diversity will help their classmates prepare for lives as responsible citizen-leaders; to helping all students across the Commonwealth find their way to colleges and universities that will serve them well; and to collaborating joyfully and purposefully with colleagues across Grounds.
