As the Director of Engineering (Operations and Lean), you will provide leadership to site engineering, champion and facilitate Lean methodology, and advance site and specialty unit technology. You will provide guidance to the site Industrial Engineers by creating work principles, setting up an assortment of lean staffing and effectiveness examinations, recognizing cost reserve funds openings and directing different investigations as required.

What you'll do on a typical day:

  • Contract, train and develop Industrial Engineering staff and provide the expertise expected to support a diverse group of engineering professionals

  • Provide technical support and direction to the Industrial Engineers

  • Direct the progressing advancement of work guidelines, process stream graphs, and sets of responsibilities for existing operations

  • Direct the documentation of procedures, systems and job descriptions to facilitate operational start-ups, providing on-site support as required; analyze on-going expenses giving correlations with earlier cost and price estimates

  • Identify ongoing facility design requirements based on activity levels, product flow and transportation methods, building layouts and power requirements

  • Direct engineering professionals in all aspects of areas of responsibility

What you need to succeed at XPO:

At a minimum, you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering

  • 10 years of engineering leadership experience

  • Lean methodology experience

  • AutoCAD experience

  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt

  • Experience directing root cause analysis activities, and supporting process development and documentation

  • Domestic travel of up to 40%

It'd be great if you also have:

  • Master's degree

  • Ability to identify and specify the use of automation where justified

  • Ability to execute continuous improvement and Lean strategies by translating business objectives into actionable projects and shares best practices throughout the organization

  • Ability to partner with each department and facility to streamline, improve and sustain processes with a primary focus on safety, quality, delivery, and cost

  • 10 years of engineering leadership experience in a distribution or warehousing environment

  • SQL experience

Job Summary The Department of Materials Science & Engineering seeks an Engineering Technician to perform a wide range of technical and engineering related duties maintaining equipment such as induction melting and heat treating furnaces, mechanical testing, metallography and other materials science related characterization equipment. The Engineering Technician will report to the Facilities Manager and will work collaboratively with other engineering technicians in the Department and College. Responsibilities* This position is responsible for training users, including undergraduate and graduate students, on proper use of laboratory equipment. The person in this role will be responsible for repair, maintenance and safe operation of the laboratory equipment in the department of materials science and engineering. The Engineering Technician will participate in continuous process improvement efforts and assist other team members as needed. Required Qualifications* Associate's degree in Materials Science &Technology plus two years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Desired Qualifications* Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field plus four years experience.
