As the Director of Engineering, you will

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of facilities management to ensure the safety and security of guests and associates and protect the asset for investors and owners. Use your extensive knowledge and talent for team management to ensure operations are smooth and facilities fully functioning for optimal guest experience.

  • Lead a skilled team of engineers. Create an environment that's engaging, where motivated people want to join, learn, do their best, and advance. Lead a diverse, motivated team by modeling the way, by empowering, and coaching throughout the employment lifecycle.

  • Keep a pulse on the division's budget. Use your extensive experience and knowledge to develop and manage the division's budget and capital expenditure plan. Manage the renovation bidding process and contractor oversight to ensure quality work at minimal cost, consistent with maintaining optimal operations and meeting management expectations.

  • Do what it takes to maintain a safe guest and work environment and protect the asset. Develop and direct emergency programs; ensure equipment is well maintained and maintenance contracts are expertly negotiated and valid; and, conduct inspections and drills.

This position can be based out of our Anaheim, CA or Philadelphia, PA location. Reporting to the VP Engineering, this position provides all the functional management responsibilities of product development by Mechanical Engineering personnel for the L3 Power Distribution division. This role will have full responsibility of all resource management and development in a matrix organization across multiple U.S. sites. This role will plan, develop, and coordinate employee training and professional development requirements. This position will perform direct line management activities for managers, supervisors, and employees in the department, including performance reviews, career development, resource allocation, and recognition. This position will support and contribute in the preparation of technical proposals towards capturing new business. The ideal candidate will provide leadership and guidance to subordinate managers and supervisors and foster cross-functional communication and collaboration. The successful candidate will provide departmental guidelines for technical adequacy, adherence to established processes, standard work development, drive continuous improvement, and advocate accountability and ownership throughout the department. Responsibilities: * Responsible for developing the department standards, best practices and processes for the Mechanical Engineering organization, enforcing its application, and capturing and codifying tacit knowledge. * Manages and provides Mechanical Engineering, analysis, and design resources in support of program requirements across multiple geographically dispersed sites and manages manpower loading projections. * Works closely with Project Engineering and Program Management to assign individuals who will perform detailed tasks on each program. Negotiates with Project Engineering to maintain full utilization of the departmental staff. * Responsible for the departmental performance of formal design reviews both internally and with the customer. Reviews technical artifacts. * Responsible for employee hiring, training, career development planning, and any disciplinary activities. * Develops the technical competence in staff to close skill gaps and to achieve satisfactory succession planning. * Provides monitoring, reporting of department performance metrics, and corrective action plans. * Defines best practices for mechanical design integration in collaboration with other engineering disciplines, especially Power Engineering, Digital Engineering, PC Board Design and the transition of designs to manufacturing. * Performs salary planning for all individuals under his/her supervision with input from Project Engineering and Program Management. * Performs administrative services in support of the directorate: forecasting manpower needs, reviewing requests for proposal and proposal documents, supporting proposal technical volume generation, validating department quotations and basis of estimates, and managing department direct and indirect budgets. * Meets company specified department goals flowed down from executive management. Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in Mechanical Engineering; with a minimum 15 years related experience and/or training, including 5 years management experience. * Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering is highly desirable. * Strong Mechanical Engineering design, development, and leadership experience of defense and industrial products. * Demonstrable experience establishing guidelines, processes, and metrics that promote successful completion of program and project milestones by employees within the department. * Experience leading a large engineering matrix organization across geographically dispersed locations. * Excellent written and verbal communications and presentation skills. * Knowledge of Navy/Military specifications and standards pertaining to hardware, materials and testing processes. * In depth knowledge of FEA and CFD * Experience in proposal development and preparing defendable Basis of Estimates. * Strong measurement, data analysis, GD&T, and statistical skills. * Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Project and Power Point. * Excellent department work planning, control, implementation and execution skills. * Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
