Job Overview

The Director of Engineering is responsible for the direction and effective operation of the Engineering Department. This role is responsible for people leadership, construction project management, property maintenance, and budget adherence. With a team of direct reports, the Director of Engineering will create a fun and safe environment for our hosts. This leader must also subscribe to the Great Place to Work culture present across all Herschend properties. The Director must be available to work flexible schedules and long hours, especially during event and project periods. Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 5 years' experience in project management, maintenance, and people leadership.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Sets overall engineering department goals, processes, or procedures to accomplish company objectives

  • Ensures all health, safety, and regulations are followed

  • Creates a preventive maintenance system as well as procedures to keep day-to-day operations running smoothly

  • Oversees, motivates, and reviews engineering leaders including management of training and professional development

  • Direct the activities of the Maintenance, Sanitation, Water/Sewage, Vehicle Maintenance, and project Teams

  • Responsible for setting the overall goals, strategies, and objectives for the department and its individual team members.

  • Creates the maintenance policies and procedures for the organization, including how that business will meet or exceed Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) and other pertinent agency rules and requirements.

  • Create the process for how engineering tasks are assigned, completed, and reported on by the organization.

  • Plans, organizes, directs the design and construction of property enhancements and renovations

  • Directs the performance of capital projects

  • Responsible for direction of equipment servicing and routine maintenance.

  • Will rotate as property Manager on Duty

  • Responsible for staff development training

  • Have knowledge and understanding of all department policies and procedures and communicate and enforce all policies fairly and consistently with staff.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by property leader

  • Attend all meetings/training as required

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • College Degree in related field preferred

  • Experience in construction and project management.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience

  • Knowledge of building design, construction, maintenance, required.

  • Excellent communication skills - verbal, written, and presentation skills required.

  • Knowledge of contracts and specifications.

  • Proficient computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and Project Management Applications

  • Experience working with computers and software, especially Microsoft Office

  • Previous working experience where safety compliance and customer satisfaction are a high priority.

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.

  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check

  • Must maintain all licenses and registrations related to areas of responsibility

  • Strong organizational skills

Physical Requirements

  • Long hours are sometimes required

  • Potentially physically challenging work

  • Ability to stand for long hours at a time
