GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the overall vision and strategy for the District's Educational Technology (ET) Department and of all technologies utilized by the District. The Director of Educational Technology is a business strategist, IT functional strategist, implementation leader, technology advocate, and change agent, ensuring integrity and technology support for student education and district operations. Responsible for the overall vision and strategy for the District's Educational Technology plan.

MAJOR TASKS:

  • Develops and implements the overall long-term IT strategic vision to meet the District's education and administrative business goals.

  • Works closely with the Educational Services Department to optimize the use of technology in instruction and develop technology curricular standards and goals.

  • Leads, directs and/or oversees: strategic and tactical technology operations and services including, but not limited to: educational and instructional technology, data and voice networks, servers, data storage, data and network operations, cloud services, websites and communication tools, student information system, systems security, disaster recovery, systems administration, software licensing, hardware and software acquisition, deployment and administration, devices, and vendor/contracts managements.

  • Establishes IT policies, procedures, and standards for the District that support efficient operations and effective business operations, which include security and acceptable use considerations.

  • Regularly audits and reviews systems and practices to ensure compliance with policies, procedures and standards.

  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and continual updating of district-wide technology plans to meet current and projected educational and administrative needs.

  • Coordinates efforts across departments and schools to help ensure optimal success in technology initiatives.

  • Oversees the maintenance and improvement of the current infrastructure in support of enhanced reliability, user service levels and security. Coordinates efforts to ensure that technology is used to improve student achievement, instruction, and increase efficiency of overall operations.

  • Oversees current technology assets, develops and implements technology project initiatives as well as ensure the daily management of the District's operating systems, network, Internet connectivity, and related databases.

  • Hires, evaluates and manages the site technicians and technology department staff.

  • Performs other duties as needed to provide an environment that meets the District objectives of mobility, agility and user-responsiveness.

  • Performs other duties as determined by the Superintendent

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Business, Education or related area from four-year College or university.

  • 5+ years of progressive, relevant information technology experience in IT infrastructure, strategic planning and development, project management, and policy development, managing a diverse technology group including database management, network, programmers, technology support and SIS teams.

  • Experience leading, developing, implementing, and operating technology solutions in a complex systems and operational environment.

  • Professional level experience with technology in the public sector may substitute for any or all education requirements.

  • Or any equivalent combination of relevant education, experience, skills, and training as approved by the Superintendent.
