POSITION: Director of Education and Instruction
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months of Employment
SALARY: Based on State Salary Scale
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Master's degree required
3-5 years of successful teaching or principal experience in elementary education is preferred
Exemplary leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Knowledge of federal programs and budgets
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms
Strong technology skills
Ability to supervise and coordinate multiple programs and activities
Ability to lead engaging, effective professional development with teachers, administrators and central staff
Strong organizational skills
Requires the ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders including but not limited to: parents, teachers, students, administrators, community leaders, agency representatives and others
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides leadership in assuring that the curriculum and instructional programs reflect the best in current educational research and practice and provides training opportunities for staff to strengthen their skills/knowledge (Pre-K, K-6, 6-12/13)
Provides oversight and direction of all Early Childhood Education Centers
Provides oversight and leadership of the Title I component of Federal Programs
Provide leadership to determine the types of programs needed in schools and make appropriate recommendations for all curricular areas
Observes classrooms to provide feedback and coaching for improved, research based instructional practices
Develop and implement instructional strategies which enhance student achievement on Pre-K - Grade 12/13 end-of-grade, end of course, state benchmarks and other testing programs
Demonstrates knowledge of the science of reading research and/or willingness to invest in related professional development
Work with district Data to analyze, report and interpret student performance and develop recommendations that address identified needs in instruction
Facilitate monthly meetings for principals and interventionists
Monitor the North Carolina Standard Course of Study
Attend Monthly WRESA Curriculum Council meetings
Work directly with OEL to enhance early literacy skill development
Review, research, prepare and disseminate information pertaining to trends in curriculum development, extended learning programs, and intervention programs
Attend department, PLC (Professional Learning Communities) and grade level meetings with principals to ensure consistent communication between the curriculum and instruction department and schools
Assist with School Work Plans through the NC Star platform
Rosenwald School Liaison. Assist in curriculum implementation, scheduling, promotion and attending meetings as needed with committee members
Collaborate with principals of assigned schools and assist in determining staffing needs
Organize and provide professional development activities as needed and directed at the school and the district level
Assist in textbook selection by developing, administering or supervising the textbook adoption process
Support school staff, when requested, by meeting with parents/families regarding student progress
Assist in creating, delivering and follow-up analysis of professional development to ascertain effectiveness
Assist in Grant Writing, Implementation and Reporting
Assist with Digital Learning Plan and implementation from district level
Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent
