American International College is a private, coeducational institution of higher education located on a 88+ acre campus in Springfield, Massachusetts. The campus has 42 buildings on two sites approximately 1/2 mile apart with a total of approximately 888,000 gross square feet. Included in the inventory of buildings are student residences for a resident population of 900 students. Founded in 1885, the College has approximately 2200 graduate and undergraduate students. AIC offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs through the Schools of Business, Arts and Sciences; Health Sciences; and Education. Job Description:

  • Critically assess the degree to which College structures and systems (e.g., institutional structures; policies and procedures; resource allocation; academic equity and student success; curriculum and pedagogy; admissions and access; hiring, retention, and promotion; campus climate/culture) align with the College's DEIB and equity goals.

  • Develop and continuously refine an organizational DEIB plan that identifies and recommends specific DEIB goals, strategies, and programs; lead continuous review and evolution of internal policies and practices to ensure alignment with the College's DEIB and equity goals as well as DEIB best practices.

  • Conceptualize, plan, implement, and evaluate new DEIB programs and initiatives in accordance with the College's strategic plan, DEIB plan, and equity goals.

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with other College departments, including but not limited to: Academic Affairs, Admissions, Athletics, Financial Aid, Human Resources, Registrar, Student Life, Career Development, and the Center for Accessibility Services and Academic Accommodations; work closely with these departments to identify and incorporate relevant DEIB practices.

  • Assist in collecting, tracking, and analyzing data to measure and report progress against agreed indicators and to evaluate the impact of organizational DEIB policies and initiatives.

  • Design, coordinate, and facilitate DEIB-related trainings and programs for faculty and staff; where appropriate, coordinate with external partners to deliver training.

  • Monitor and research prevailing trends in the field of DEIB; serve as DEIB subject matter expert by contributing perspectives, insights, and knowledge to all College departments and community members.

  • Chair and/or sit on various College committees and task forces whose work relates to DEIB.

  • Develop and manage partnerships and strategic alliances with outside organizations and community members that aid in achieving the College's DEIB goals.

  • Support, collaborate with, and advise office staff in designing, implementing, and measuring the success of DEIB strategies for which they are responsible.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Required Degree(s): Master's degree in higher education administration, law, or a related field

  • Required Field of Expertise: 3+ years of experience developing and building DEIB programming in higher education.

  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas to diverse audiences.

  • Excellent trouble-shooting and problem solving skills

  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team setting

  • Ability to identify opportunities, analyze data, and make informed decisions.

  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.

  • Possess leadership and interpersonal skills

  • Work collaboratively in a diverse environment

  • Must possess ability to work with students and an understanding of issues facing students

  • Ability to cultivate a community of belonging.

  • Ability to have difficult conversations.

Work Schedule

The Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging is a full-time, exempt level, benefit-eligible position. Normal office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., flexible to the needs of the department.
