The Director of Digital Learning provides focused leadership for the ongoing assessment, benchmarking, improvement, and innovation of digital learning initiatives at Park. Digital learning encompass the University's face-to-face, blended (asynchronous and synchronous), and fully online instructional modalities. This position will have direct supervisory responsibility for the seven-member Instructional Design team responsible for working with faculty course developers to design high quality, student-centered online courses. This position will also supervise a complementary team comprising the Director of Canvas LMS Services and the Coordinator of Educational Technology Initiatives, both of whom work to promote effective and innovative teaching across modalities. The Director will work with academic and administrative constituents across the University to identify and oversee development of training programs to benefit teaching and learning at the University, including, but not limited to new software, hardware, and teaching techniques for the classroom.
Leads research and benchmarking efforts in the area of digital learning strategy for the University.
Collaborates with faculty and academic leadership on new program research, next generation learning design, and innovations in digital learning for face-to-face, blended, and online courses.
Provides leadership and facilitates University conversations about maximizing (when appropriate) digital content, including Open Educational Resources (OER), publisher-provided content, and eBooks.
Investigates new approaches with the Instructional Design team to maintain an innovative edge to the instructional design process and new technologies.
Leads ongoing assessment and improvement of all instructional design services, and their expansion across modalities.
Ensures instructional design processes are pedagogically sound, aligned with current industry practice, and nimble enough to accommodate timely execution of new programs.
Manages a number of established projects and programs, including several faculty-centered initiatives intended to explore technology and innovation in learning.
Collects and analyzes feedback from full-time and part-time faculty about the design of Park's online and blended course shells and guides continuous improvement.
Provides training and support to content approvers within the academic programs responsible for assuring the quality of developed and redeveloped courses.
Provides leadership and strategy for ongoing faculty training and communication efforts related to the use of Park's Canvas Learning Management system (LMS), including all training for faculty course developers.
Serves as the Academic Affairs liaison to the Educational Technologies Advisory Committee.
Master's degree terminal degree preferred.
7 + years of experience in the field of educational technology or related experience.
5 + years of higher education teaching, which must include online teaching.
Technical facility with market-leading learning management systems (Canvas in particular), technology tools for learning, and workplace collaboration/communication tools.
Proven record of positive, productive consulting interactions with faculty and students
Demonstrated ability to successfully design, deliver, launch, and maintain programs and initiatives, including a record of demonstrating initiative, diplomacy, and excellent professional judgment.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex programs concurrently.
Demonstrated success motivating, leading, and integrating teams.
Experience with design processes, including visual and strategic design.
Demonstrated progressive managerial experience, both of programs and of people.
Must have excellent communication skills, ability to multi-task, excellent attention to detail, and superior interpersonal skills.
