Position Summary
The Director of Development Operations has the primary leadership for the operations of the development department. A person who loves project management and has the mind of a fundraising professional with the skills of a database manager will excel. This role advances Northwest University's fundraising by planning, executing, and reporting on a variety of activities including prospect research/portfolio management, Salesforce/Causeview management, and event management.
Essential Functions
DATABASE AND SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
Works with IT to administer Salesforce (with Causeview overlay).
Oversee any reporting required by internal teams or external sources (ie, foundations).
Administer various other systems, including Crescendo (planned giving platform), iWave (prospect research), Impact Forms (giving and event registration), Wordpress (internal site), Pardot (email system), Greater Giving (events), marketing calendar software, and others. Understand how these systems work together and when to deploy them successfully.
Aid in the creation of reports and Board of Directors reports based on system dashboards and data.
EVENT AND CAMPAIGN PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Prepare for and participate in regular donor prospect meetings and departmental meetings; strategize consistently with the Executive Director Northwest University Foundation, Chief Advancement Officer, University President, Foundation Board of Trustees, Foundation Board of Directors, and fellow staff members as appropriate.
Create timelines for development-based events. Ensure timeliness of meeting required tasks for a successful event.
Gather stakeholders as required for events, ensuring communications are disseminated and understood.
Facilitate meetings that include University Senior Leadership, sending agendas beforehand and tallying next steps at the end of each meeting.
Create scripts, run sheets, and programs for events with the help of stakeholders.
Create and keep track of event budgets.
Work with other departments, such as marketing, to promote events and campaigns.
Advise and partner with other departments who are fundraising (ie, Athletics booster club, counseling center fundraising).
Manage campaigns such as Calendar Year End and capital campaigns.
HUMAN RESOURCES AND ACCOUNTING
Create and manage development budget.
Hire and supervise contracted workers for events.
Pay invoices and keep track of budget spend.
Supervise Development Operations Coordinator to achieve annual fundraising and campaign goals.
Meet regularly with accounting, ensuring donor intentions are honored and tracking of pledges/commitments are recorded properly.
Work closely with the team from Student Financial Services and Accounting to produce endowment holder statements and upkeep of agreements. Work with development team members to receive student thank you letters.
PROSPECT RESEARCH AND PROFOLIO MANAGEMENT
Manage a portfolio of 20-30 contacts who have the capacity to make multi-year commitments of five, six and seven figure gifts.
Operate with the team in donor acquisition.
Oversee any support needed from the Office of the President to manage the President's portfolio. Primarily opportunity management, suggesting potential donors to meet, and updating information in Causeview/Salesforce.
Initiate donor visits, conduct fundraising calls with a professional and engaging demeanor and well developed interpersonal and communication skills.
OTHER DUTIES:
Education/Experience/Skills
Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred).
Minimum three years of demonstrated skills with major gift fundraising and annual fund development in a higher education context.
Strong leadership skills with demonstrated excellence in networking and building trusted relationships with individuals and groups.
Fundraising and event management skills required.
Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate across departments to achieve strategic goals.
Demonstrate commitment to maintaining a safe work environment free of harassment, violence, and unlawful discrimination
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is generally performed indoors in a typical office setting.
Some weekend/evening work required.
Travel, including overnight travel, may be required.
Position works with strictly confidential information.
May require work in outdoor weather conditions, including wet, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
Frequently required to be in front of a computer screen for long periods of time.
May be exposed to loud noise levels.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The functions are usually performed while sitting, but may involve some amount of time standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting (max. of 40 lbs.), walking, carrying, reaching, stretching, climbing, performing repetitive motions of the hands or wrists and other movements. The abilities of seeing, hearing and speaking are also required.
Compensation
Based on education and experience, the compensation range starts at $31.25 per hour/65,000 per year to a median of $80,000 per year.
