Director of Development, Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS)

ASU Foundation, one of five nonprofit entities that make up ASU Enterprise Partners, is seeking a Director of Development for Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS).

The Director of Development for Educational Outreach and Student Success is a proven and forward looking fundraising professional who understands how to generate philanthropic support for ASU from multiple stakeholders - individuals and organizations. This leader will implement all philanthropic aspects of the exciting and innovative model for comprehensive university-wide programs and initiatives driven by Educational Outreach and Student Success.

ASU EOSS is a critical support division reaching across the entirety of ASU and is a catalyst for change, transforming Arizona's college-going culture by empowering students to invest in their future and attain a university degree. There is a unique opportunity to build and grow EOSS' philanthropic footprint given its impact on almost 200,000 students and families annually. The Director will work in a highly collaborative unit of ASU working directly with the Senior Vice President of Educational Outreach and Student Success and the Vice President of Strategic Initiatives along with the EOSS leadership team.

What you'll do:

  • Create and lead a coordinated program of fundraising and engagement activities designed to increase the number and level of annual, major and/or principal gift donors; sets direction and approach in partnership with Sr. VP's vision

  • Track overall fundraising metrics related to EOSS initiatives, including overall donor count, identification of new prospects, growth in cumulative giving, donor retention, major gift proposals submitted, and new gifts and commitments

  • Guided by the direction and scope of a prospect's interest, collaborate with unit-based leadership and foundation-based fundraisers to leverage the maximum philanthropic potential of a prospect

  • Collaborate with Sun Devil Giving to develop and implement sustaining gift fundraising strategies and lead Sun Devil Giving Day strategy for EOSS giving

  • Coordinate with Presidential Advancement & ASU Family - Parent and Family Philanthropy for prospecting and related fundraising strategies

  • Coordinate with ASUF on EOSS Changing Futures Campaign objectives

  • Guide the direction of written proposals, white papers, strategic plans, budgets, and other collateral materials as needed for securing significant philanthropic investments

  • Host signature events to raise awareness of student success stories

  • Proactively manage a portfolio of major gift ($50,000+) prospects regionally and nationally, developing and executing strategies leading to solicitation and investment that leverage the donor's interests and connect them to ASU's opportunities

  • Travel when necessary to execute strategic development plans for regional and national major donor prospects

  • Develop and submit written proposals, budgets, and other collateral materials as needed for securing philanthropic investments

  • Ensure appropriate donor strategies and recognition of donors in portfolio and collaborate with Donor Relations on broader strategies for all parent and family donors

  • Within area(s) of responsibility, maintains up to date knowledge on key alumni and high-level donors, and/or oversees continuous research, development and up-to-date knowledge on prospects and works with other areas to coordinate contacts

  • Participates, as a member of the ASUF development team and serve as a resource to development colleagues

  • Work with university and foundation systems staff to maintain an expanding database of parent and family constituents

  • Work in a fast-paced, results oriented environment with complex and evolving relationships and priorities

  • Write philanthropic grants with support from team leads

  • Other duties as assigned

What you'll need:

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with academic leadership, faculty, prospects, donors, and/or volunteers in a wide range of roles

  • Complex problem-solving skills coupled with the ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective, accurate, and timely reports and other documents to support development objectives

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of database management

  • Ability to successfully lead, coach and guide a team to achieve desired result

  • Ability to inquire about and understand organizational interests and needs, and determine how to persuade or market to that organization with compelling benefits

  • Ability to exercise good judgment, to demonstrate an understanding of ethics related to development activities, and to use discretion in interactions with donors, prospects, volunteers, and others

  • Ability to foster effective working relationships within a team environment

  • Community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community

  • Knowledge of fundraising techniques including proposal development, prospect identification, program planning, fund solicitation, database management, donor tracking, and social networking and marketing tools

  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Foundation and University business and confidential prospect information

  • Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds

  • Ability to represent the institution well and possess an advocate's belief in the vision of ASU as the New American University

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable working in donor/prospect computer database systems

Relevant qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of successful professional development and/or fundraising experience

  • Or any equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved

  • Documented success in personally implementing sophisticated, multi-year cultivation strategies that use a relationship-building and moves management approach leading to successful gift closure

  • Demonstrated ability in securing major grants and gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other private funding sources

Preferred education and experience:

  • Advanced degree

  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of successful professional development and/or fundraising experience in higher education or applicable roles

  • Experience working in Salesforce and Workday
