Under the leadership of the Assistant Dean for Development and in close collaboration with the Dean of the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (CHASS) the Director of Development (DoD) will develop and execute long- and short-term strategies to grow the college's philanthropic pipeline and secure annual, major, and in-kind donations from organizations that will benefit endowments, research programs, and student success. The DoD will identify and manage approximately 150 individual donors and will travel locally and statewide frequently for qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship purposes.

The DoD will arrange appropriate opportunities for key faculty and academic leadership to meet with prospective donors and will work collaboratively with other University Advancement colleagues to achieve fundraising goals. Please note: this is a three-year, renewable contract position which includes the same employee benefits afforded career employees. The full salary range for the Director of Development, College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences is $96,700 - $184,100 annually.

The expected pay scale for this position is $100,000 - $120,000 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position.

Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time.  Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

Develops and manages dynamic portfolio to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects for gifts in the agreed upon range. May include corporate and foundation prospects.Identifies, cultivates, solicits and/or stewards major gift prospects and donors.Plans, organizes, and directs large-scale, fundraising campaigns which include multiple components.May serve as an expert or lead development professional in a specific academic discipline.Evaluates programs using financial feasibility studies and market research, including planning and evaluating annual solicitation programs and making recommendations for improvements.Recruits, trains, and supports key volunteers who assist in advancement efforts.May serve as an expert or lead development professional in a specific academic discipline.Results have a major impact on the overall goals of the/program.Qualify major gift prospects and solicit gifts directly.Writes proposals for solicitation of individual, corporate, and/or foundation prospects.May oversee the work of professional and support staff involved in the implementation of multi-component fundraising programs.May attend functions, meetings and serve on internal/external committees as a representative of the location.Ensures that predetermined fundraising goals are met and implements program activities to achieve these goals. .Maintains appropriate records on all donors and prospects under management, including paper files and in electronic database. Prepare an annual operating plan and budget for regional major gift fundraising program.Analyzes needs and assists in the creation of strategic plans for fundraising and other advancement programs.

Advanced written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies. Ability to make persuasive and compelling presentations of goals and objectives for a location in order to secure gifts.Very strong skills in maintaining confidentiality.Advanced knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.Advanced organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills, including skill in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification/avoidance/resolution, and strong project management skills.Advanced knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.Ability to work effectively with advancement staff in devising, analyzing, modifying, implementing, and evaluating development programs.Ability to work effectively with student organizations, parent programs, and faculty.Understanding of standard office productivity software including Microsoft suite of programs.Good organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.Proven success at fundraising by developing and implementing strategic plans that incorporate a concise definition of goals, targeted audiences, and strategies in-line with institutional goals, and closing gifts ($25,000+) from individuals, corporations, and foundations, both local and national.Demonstrated success at meeting predetermined goals and objectives through effective program/project planning, organization, execution, and evaluation.Strong sense of ethical conduct that will inspire confidence and motivation with the proven ability to persuade colleagues and prospects.Ability to work effectively with deans and directors, academic and university leaders and volunteers to achieve fundraising goals.Advanced working knowledge of all aspects of the location, including current issues of concern for both the campus and/or throughout higher education/healthcare generally. Advanced working of the location, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.General knowledge of various types of charitable gifts, including in-kind gifts, gifts of securities, planned giving vehicles, and gifts of real property.Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of major gift fundraising, preferably within a major research university environment.Experience supporting capital or comprehensive campaigns in higher education.Experience using Raiser's Edge or other CRM databases.Experience with exporting/importing data from or to different software applications; and operating knowledge of internet for data gathering purposes.
