The Director of Development is the primary liaison between the College and University Advancement and leads and coordinates all aspects of UA activity with fundraising as the goal. The Director develops and executes an annual and comprehensive work plan agreed upon by UA and the College. As part of this work plan, the Director maintains a major gift portfolio relevant to the programs (s)he represents as well as serves as a critical partner to other fundraisers whose prospects have an interest in funding priorities of the College. Portfolio work will consist of executing moves management strategies with donors including regular face-to-face or virtual meetings with some travel required. This position has the opportunity to work in a hybrid work arrangement, with time worked on campus as well as remotely.

Duties and Responsibilities

1.Portfolio management

  • Create and execute fundraising plans that utilize best practices in qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift prospects ($100,000+) for the strategic initiatives of the College.

  • Actively manage a portfolio of prospects for the purpose of "moving" constituents through the major-gift pipeline. This includes travel for face-to-face visits as well as effective digital engagement.

  • Secure outright and deferred gift commitments in fulfillment of individual and team goals. · Aid in identifying areas for Dean and faculty travel for the purpose of fundraising, engagement, and donor stewardship work. Partners with and serves as a facilitator to other fundraisers to incorporate Dean and faculty into cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans locally and nationally.

  • Work collaboratively across teams to drive fundraising work on behalf of the College; this includes working with Prospect Management, Donor Relationships, Donor Stewardship, Regional Development, Principal Gifts, Planned Giving, Engagement, Communications, etc.

2.UA/College representation and administrative responsibilities

  • Serve as the content expert and primary liaison between UA and the College, building and strengthening relationships between the entities as a whole and between the Director of Development and individual college faculty and staff.

  • Provide the College with context on UA activities, strategies, and goals; leads on college-specific UA goals.

  • Meet regularly with college leadership to assess progress to goals, review strategies and prioritize workload. Leads, or participates in, internal meetings when appropriate.

  • Partner with the College to establish vision and goals for various committees which support volunteer engagement and serve a fundraising purpose. As appropriate, attends committee meetings and provides UA updates and direction for the committee's work.

  • Directly manages Campaign Committee for the College; serving as lead point of contact with volunteers related to committee work.

  • Maintain appropriate contact with prospects and records substantive information in UA database system.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college and/or university.

A minimum of five years of personal portfolio management and securing gifts at the $100,000 or above level is required, along with experience in strategic planning, volunteer management, and event coordination.

Strong verbal and written communication skills and experience in messaging and branding, especially in the academic setting.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage competing work expectations.

The ability to work with colleagues across the University and establish and foster relationships that encourage a collaborative work environment.
