The Director of Design is responsible for executing all short and long term initiatives for the Design Service Line in the Midwest including, business development, client satisfaction, financial management, technical expertise, and operations management The Director of Design is responsible for the planning, organizing and implementing all key Design Service Line initiatives.

In addition, the Director of Design is responsible for providing inspirational leadership by attracting, retaining, motivating, and developing high caliber talent within the Design Service Line. The Director of Design ensures that key human resources and technical resources are aligned for the successful achievement of the Design Service Line's goals and objectives.



  • Establish operational and technical performance targets and monitor achievement toward those targets, taking corrective action when needed.

  • Direct strategic initiatives, including business development, financial management, operations management and technological advancement for assigned personnel.

  • Collaborate with the Buildings Group management, other Design Service Line Leaders, and the marketing staff to identify and analyze business development opportunities that are strategically aligned with the Company's objectives.

  • Cultivate effective relationships with existing and potential key clients.

  • Ensure that the Service Line's financial goals and objectives are maximized.

  • Drive project profitability through Group Leaders and Project Managers by maintaining proper, qualified staffing levels for project delivery within the Discipline.

  • Develop relationships and influence with staff in region and peers and partners outside of region to ensure a constructive work environment and positive business outcomes

Specific Measurement of Success

  • Work to achieve the 2019 budgeted goals for Design Service Line. Design has a budgeted goal is $10M gross revenue

  • Work with our counterparts in Buildings Division to help standardize on operating methods for the Design Services as a whole. This includes project management practices, use of project controls tools (Vision, Newforma, P6), and means of communication for successful completion of projects across BTS/verticals.

  • Utilizing other Design entities within NV5, grow the Design Service Line nationwide; not only in headcount, but in technical abilities, existing clients sales capabilities and in the efficiency with which we operate as a group.

  • Develop relationships and influence with staff in region and peers and partners outside of region to ensure a constructive work environment and positive business outcomes

  • Client satisfaction through growth of existing client revenues (repeat work) and development of new clients.

  • Employee satisfaction, development and performance.


  • Bachelor degree in Engineering or Business with a Master's degree in engineering or MBA preferred.

  • Strong preference for professional engineer or registered.

  • Exceptional business acumen including in-depth knowledge of financial, human resource and operations management.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and vision to a diverse group of people.

  • Proficient at the development and implementation of strategic plans and operational objectives.

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive engineering management experience, preferably in an Consulting Engineering environment.

The Direct of Credit, Collections and Underwriting is responsible for the management of the credit administration and underwriting functions for Enterprise Credit (retail) and CHS Capital. This includes the establishment and ongoing refinement of the Global credit policy. This position has direct oversight of the retail accounts receivable/loan approval process, credit review function, and Special Assets/Collections. As a member of the Enterprise Credit Senior Leadership team, the incumbent will be involved in setting short-term and long-term goals for Enterprise Credit and CHS Capital. The successful candidate must have the ability to understand producer financial data and apply underwriting standards to credit and loan accounts. This position requires bold leadership, the ability to influence others, detail-orientation and excellent communication skills. A solution-oriented leader with strong analytical, problem-solving, multi-tasking and negotiating skills will succeed in this role. You will: * Lead broad credit strategies as well as specific initiatives, developing metrics and action plans including annual business plans and budgets to meet CHS Enterprise Credit's annual goals. Also includes portfolio management and oversight, proposing loan pricing strategies and monitoring industry tends. * Work with leaders across CHS to formulate, revise and implement policies, procedures and practices that are consistent with the overall strategy and objective of CHS. * Ensure proposed loans and credit adhere to existing policy guidelines, sufficient documentation is in order and the administration and review is adequate to maintain the portfolio's quality and profitability. Ensure that overall credit risk is maintained within established levels. * Work in coordination with CHS Treasury to manage the wholesale funding for CHS Capital. * Be accountable for the management of the credit administration and underwriting functions for CHS Enterprise Credit and CHS Capital, which includes the loan and credit approval process and function. * Create an effective approval process within the company that supports the risk tolerance of CHS while also facilitating desired growth objectives. * Create efficient and effective credit management processes that span across the retail, wholesale and international areas. * Provide oversight to documentation, security and maintenance in collaboration with the Sr. Operations Manager to ensure that accounts receivable and loan collateral meets expectations. * Responsible for making decisions surrounding collateral position by coordinating with underwriters and assessing risk of any exceptions. * Actively participate as a member of the CHS Enterprise Credit Senior Leadership team by providing insight on strategic planning, departmental direction and priorities, and implementation of business plans. * Lead the special assets function driving resolution to problematic accounts. Provide leadership to individuals and departments utilizing the loan origination platform. Coordinate, design and implement workflow systems. Basic Qualifications: (required) * Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related field. * 10+ years of experience in credit administration, underwriting or credit review. * 2+ years of experience in agribusiness lending. * 2+ years supervisory/management experience.
