Salary range for this position is: $82,348/yr. - $113,719/yr. (depending on experience)

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. The employer will not sponsor applicants for work visas.

Under the supervision of the Executive Dean of Healthcare and Human Services, the Director of Dental Programs will assume primary responsibility for management and direction of the Dental Programs. This includes overseeing the planning, operations, and assessment of program facilities (i.e., labs and clinics), supervising and coordinating the work of instructional and support staff, and working in a team with other program coordinators and administrators within the Healthcare and Human Services Division, Neighborcare Health in the Dental Education Clinic, and other community partners.

What you will be working on:

Assume primary responsibility for management and direction of the Dental Programs

  • Maintain an ongoing awareness of issues, concerns, potential problems on all levels that may affect the Dental Programs.

  • Determine a management process for addressing issues and solving problems related to the program.

  • Communicate with Executive Dean on an ongoing basis.

  • Set goals and priorities for the program in collaboration with the program faculty, program staff, and the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).

  • Report as needed to Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), and the TAC.

  • Supervise Dental Program faculty and staff.

  • Determine teaching assignments for faculty and classified staff duties

Coordination

  • Coordinate meetings and communicate issues to the dental education faculty.

  • Review and revise the Dental Programs websites.

  • Update the Dental Programs application packets.

  • Oversee and coordinate annual curriculum review and revision.

  • Coordinate policy changes to the division in collaboration with faculty and staff.

  • Coordinate communications with other Seattle Central departments/services to support Dental Programs students and the Dental Programs.

  • Oversee the operation of the Dental Skills Center Labs.

  • Collaborate and coordinate with Neighborcare to ensure clinic operations are in alignment with the partnership agreement while ensuring CODA requirements are met.

Administration

  • Maintain accurate administrative records for the Dental Programs.

  • Facilitate faculty efforts in establishing program goals and objectives in planning and implementing the activities to achieve them.

  • Chair department meetings and department and tenure meetings.

  • Review and respond to program-related correspondence.

  • Review and renew clinical contracts quarterly and annually; initiate new clinical contracts as needed.

  • Evaluate clinical sites on an annual basis.

Liaisons with dental hygiene organizations, professional groups, other Dental Programs, the University of Washington School of Dentistry, Neighborcare Health Dental Clinics, the dental community and the community-at-large

  • Attend Washington Dental Hygiene Association meetings and communicate issues discussed with the Dental Hygiene faculty, the Northwest Dental Hygiene Educators¿ Association meeting and communicate pertinent issues with the Dental Hygiene faculty.

  • Conduct communications with the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations of the American Dental Association and the American Association of Dental Examiners Western Regional Examining Board (WREB).

Supervise full-time/part-time dental hygiene faculty

  • Supervise full-time and part-time faculty and mutually develop instructors¿ professional development plans, as required by the Washington Administrative Code (WAC).

  • Maintain part-time faculty pools.

  • Plan and conduct the interview process.

  • Coordinate advertising/applications with division Executive Dean.

  • Arrange and conduct interviews; make recommendations for hiring.

  • Plan and conduct orientation of new faculty members.

  • Review both the Faculty Handbook and the Student Handbook with new faculty members. Answer questions and give campus tours.

  • Arrange for orientation to applicable theory/clinical course(s) by appropriate faculty members.

  • Arrange for orientation to clinical facility and affiliated agencies.

  • Annually recommend part-time faculty hours to the Executive Dean. This includes requirements for Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer quarters.

Admissions

  • Encourage methods to promote Dental Programs applications; be available for student advising prior to program application.

  • Collaborate with the Admissions Office and Advisors to coordinate processing the incoming class

  • Budget

  • Report regularly to division Executive Dean regarding Dental Program budgets.

  • Review posting of budget and balance with current books.

  • Establish and monitor process for examining current equipment and supplies.

  • Maintain files for equipment, supplies, audio-visuals and all resources on an on-going basis.

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)

  • Current Washington State Dental Hygiene license

  • Current Certified Dental Assistant credential

  • Strong dental hygiene background with at least three (3) years: clinical experience required.

  • Computer literacy, proficiency in using electronic communications, i.e., the internet; working knowledge of computer-assisted instruction and/or training.

  • Ability to work productively with diverse students, faculty, staff, and community members.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work well in a team setting, serving as a team leader or team member.

Physical Requirements:

The Position

  • Typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to Perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office.

  • Encounters frequent interruptions throughout the workday.

  • Is regularly required to provide 1:1 support, present to small groups, and work at a computer exercising repetitive hand motion with or without reasonable accommodation.
