Title: Director of Curriculum and Instruction

Work Unit/Location: Central Office

Reports to: Deputy Superintendent

Contract Length: 12 Months

Pay Schedule: Director Salary Schedule

Overtime Status: Exempt

Hours: Hours required to accomplish the job; minimum 40/week

Union Status: Non-Union

Licensure: NM Level lll Teacher and Administrator Licenses

General Job Function:

The Director of Curriculum and Instruction will provide leadership and vision in the ongoing planning, implementation, development, direction, review, and evaluation of the district's curriculum and instructional services, career and technical education services. The Director will ensure that the district/school education objectives are aligned with state frameworks and instructional practices that yield the highest standards of student achievement and instructional excellence

Education/Training/Experience:

Minimum: Master's degree in Educational Administration with emphasis in administration, organization, curriculum development, supervision, leadership, and finance. Valid New Mexico Level lll Teacher's License and a valid New Mexico Administrator's License. Five (5) years of prior teaching experience and three-five (3-5) years of prior administrative experience.

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of state and federal accountability systems; effective academic interventions; emerging technologies that support student achievement; equity issues and resources; pedagogical principles and practices in effective teaching and learning for underserved students; existing programs that have been successful in closing the achievement/access gaps and increasing the overall academic success of the district's students in preparation for college and career readiness.

Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to):

Standard office equipment. Basic Office computer program abilities (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google, and iVisions Web Portal). Ability to attend in-person or virtually and be available to work on-site, in-person

during regular business hours, and virtually as needed.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements:

Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; communicate verbally and electronically; reach with hands and arms; stand and move throughout the building and/or to other facilities, and drive. Occasionally required to lift and/or exert a force of up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Environmental Conditions:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel to facilities throughout the district is integral to the job.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Establishes and maintains systems, processes, and practices that support a college- and career-going culture to ensure students are fully ready for success in middle and high school

  • Provides direction and leadership on the development of a comprehensive curriculum for all elementary

schools including curricular guides with scope and sequence documents, pacing guides, know/do-show charts,

assessment strategies, as well as units of study with aligned, embedded assessments

  • Develops, in collaboration with the coordinators, district, and school professional learning programs for

teachers, support staff, and administrators to assist in raising the level of instructional performance and student

achievement

  • Recommends the expansion or elimination of courses and programs as necessary

  • Supervises the selection and adoption of new textbooks, instructional materials, and methods under the

the direction of the Executive Director

  • Collaborates with other curriculum directors to ensure all instructional initiatives and practices are K-12

aligned

  • Works collaboratively with other departments for the integration of district curriculum aligned with the

district's strategic plan

  • Supports, where applicable, the implementation of the related to CTE, STEM, and College & Career Readiness,

  • Integrates social-emotional learning (SEL) within the curriculum

  • Communicates effectively with community and stakeholders

  • Sets, assesses and verifies short-term and long-term goals of the curriculum

  • Uses data to make decisions and adjustments to the curriculum program

  • Designs and implements professional learning to support the curriculum using effective practices, including

research on theory and content standards

  • Provides and supports ongoing professional learning for assigned staff to increase their effectiveness

  • Develops and reviews the department's annual budget; analyzes and reviews budgetary and financial data;

monitors and authorizes expenditures in accordance with established guidelines
