Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director of the Center for Student Wellness (CSW), the Director of Counseling Services (CS) provides quality clinical services to improve student mental health along cognitive, emotional, personal and interpersonal dimensions and oversees CS operations, as well as the Student Advocacy and Trauma Support program, including staffing, client scheduling, scope of practice management, and development and revision of policies and procedures.
Provides culturally sensitive, time-limited clinical services, including assessment and individual, group, and couples sessions.
Provides crisis intervention and participates in after-hours on-call rotation.
Coordinates and supervises work of counseling staff, including the Outreach Coordinator, DEI Coordinator, Training Coordinator, and Student Advocacy and Trauma Support Clinical Supervisor.
Provides clinical supervision and consultation to CS interns as needed.
Serves as liaison to psychiatric medication management provider regarding scheduling, EHR management, student follow-up needs, policies and clinical documentation.
Develops and delivers psycho-educational outreach programming.
Collaborates on opportunities to expand EHR features to enhance student access.
Updates the CS and SATS web pages, as needed.
Provides mental health consultation to faculty, staff, parents and students.
Maintains knowledge of local and regional resources for specialized treatment referrals and, when appropriate, collaborative efforts.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Master's degree from an accredited program in counseling, clinical social work, counseling psychology or closely related field; five years of clinical experience in individual and group treatment; and three years of experience supervising other clinicians. Active independent South Carolina clinical license as a supervisor in good standing (LPC-S or LISW-S) or ability to obtain supervisor license within one year.
Working knowledge and clinical competencies relates to college student development theory. Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws governing patient privacy. Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills. Strong administrative skills, including the ability to prepare reports for diverse audiences. Ability to provide culturally sensitive, time-limited behavioral health services to students, including individual, couples and group psychotherapy, and emergency services/crisis intervention. Intermediate proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and common computer applications/programs, including Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom and Google Suite. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, direct reports, faculty, staff, administrators and students. Ability to lead, supervise, train and evaluate a team of counselors. Ability to maintain appropriate professional/ethical standards in all circumstances.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate in counseling, clinical social work, counseling psychology or closely related field. At least three years of experience in individual and group treatment with a university/college population. Telemental health certification. Experience administering an internship site for MSW/MED counseling candidates and experience training and supervising clinical mental health graduate interns. Experience developing and implementing culturally competent services for diverse populations, including demonstrated experience with mental health issues affecting underrepresented groups.
