Limestone University invites applications for a full-time position of Director of Counseling and Mental Health Services.

Position Summary: The Director of Counseling and Mental Health Services will oversee the Sib Collins Counseling Center and provide accessible, equitable, and inclusive mental health counseling for the Limestone community. The Director of Counseling and Mental Health Services will support students in developing insight, personal growth, and resiliency skills to aid in the achievement of their personal, educational, and career goals. The director will respond to students and campus-wide crises and serve on an on-call rotation. As a member of the Counseling Services team, this position reports to the AVP/Dean of Student Success, oversees counselors and is a critical part of the Division of Student Success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with all areas of the Division of Student Success, Health Services, Athletics and Academics, and outside providers to ensure the overall wellness of all students, faculty, and staff.

  • Provide short- and long-term counseling for students experiencing mental health concerns, relational issues, academic challenges, and behavioral problems.

  • Manage and supervise the Counseling Center staff, clinical operations (e.g., staff caseload, referral processes and procedures, clinical records, etc.), budgets, and daily operations.

  • Consult with staff, administrators, faculty, parents, and students as needed to coordinate care for our students.

  • Provide monthly reports to the AVP/Dean of Student Success on the number of students seen, number of referrals to outside sources, and reasons students are seen. Details and names will remain confidential.

  • Collaborate on campus and the surrounding community to develop programs to prevent psychological and behavioral problems and promote strengths and capacities to optimize healthy student development.

  • Conduct client screening appointments and determine appropriate needs, case planning and connection to resources.

  • Lead individual, and group (couples and conjoint) counseling with students to address mental health needs.

  • Provide crisis intervention and emergency response (including on‐call responsibilities) and to facilitate the hospitalization, as well as the medical leave of absence of students when appropriate.

  • Administer training for student leaders, campus groups, faculty, and departments on mental health topics and intervention strategies.

  • Coordinate and manage Counseling Center staff participation in educational programs on topics that promote the strengths and capacities to facilitate optimal student growth and development as time and resources permit.

  • Cultivate and maintain collaborative working relationships with external providers within the community to refer and coordinate a continuum of care for our students.

  • Consult with the AVP/Dean of Student Success, Director of Residence Life and Housing, Director of Health Services and Chief of Campus Safety in emergency situations, provide assessment of students in crisis, and assist in the development and coordination of plans for students with complex psychological and behavioral issues.

  • Provide leadership and vision for the Counseling Center, including the ongoing development of departmental strategic plans, annual goals, and assessment of operations and all services.

  • To effectively communicate to the Limestone University community the Counseling Center's scope of services and procedures for referral, and consultation services.

  • Oversee Limestone University Bachelors and Master of Social Work Interns and/or students needing field experience.

Education and Experience:

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Social Work, Counselor Education, Sports Psychology, or a related field.

  • Required South Carolina Board Licensure as Licensed Mental Health Care Provider.

  • Two - Three years of post-degree experience in a mental health setting.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends when necessary. On call Rotation required.

  • Knowledge of broad range of personal counseling theories, diagnostic formulation, and treatment intervention.

  • Must want to work at a small, private college and work independently and cooperatively with other Student Success Staff.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Licensed Professional Counselor or Clinical Mental Health Counselor.

  • Demonstrate experience and skills in facilitating culturally sensitive and inclusive outreach and educational programming.

  • Demonstrate experience working with college-age populations (undergraduate through graduate/professional level), preferably with athletes, veterans, first-generation students, or non-traditional students.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and basic computer skills are required.

  • Ability to interact and work with various campus and community resources and partners.

  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills with an ability to develop and deliver outreach and educational programming to various audiences.

  • Understanding of relevant confidentiality issues.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Will oversee Counseling center staff, and student workers.

  • Written Communication: Writes clearly and effectively both within the college and outside correspondence.

  • Customer Service: Responds quickly and effectively to all constituent's questions and concerns. Investigates solutions to problems and responds quickly to the concerned party. Is prudent in responding to telephone calls, emails, and other types of correspondence.

  • To perform the position effectively and successfully, one should have knowledge of Microsoft Programs, be able to perform tasks in Word and Excel. Ability to negotiate new computer programs with ease and learn new software.
