What You Will Do

This role requires candidates who are great managers of people, processes, and projects, with a record of success in cultivating positive and productive partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including Project Executives, Project Managers, owners, owner representatives, developers, designers, subcontractors, vendors, and representatives of government agencies. The ability to articulate the vision, communicate purpose, and outline expectations to sustain a strong safety culture, cultivate employee engagement, support professional development, and build a unified team to achieve successful project outcomes.

How You Will Make a Difference

Be a champion of our safety culture with a goal of zero injuries:

  • Assume responsibility for the safe conduct of field teams to ensure a zero-accident culture

  • Partner with Safety Manager to promote company safety initiatives

  • Enforce safety plans to ensure no-excuse compliance with safe work practices

Double contract revenue in two years, then double it again in four:

  • Develop a strategy for growth that considers geography, project type, and market segment

  • Partner with Business Development to identify and pursue projects that maximize strategic and financial opportunities

  • Work with HR to maintain a robust hiring pipeline and hiring first, to fit our core values, and second, based on technical experience

  • Make data-driven recommendations on capital equipment investment with a focus on growth

Focus on increasing margin contribution through:

  • Facilitating effective bid reviews by ensuring cost and production estimates reflect operational ability

  • Leading the development of the master schedule; working with the project owners, project management, and subcontractors as required

  • Finding new ways to continuously improve means and methods to improve project schedules and delivery

  • Setting and monitoring goals for the overall team and tracking the financial performance of each project, monitoring key metrics such as costs versus estimate, schedule versus plan, resource allocation and resource productivity, billing and collections, cash flow and profitability

Develop and cultivate strong relationships with material suppliers

  • Meet on a regular basis with supplier representatives to keep abreast of the market and to stay informed on new product offerings.

Develop and cultivate strong relationships with valued customers

  • Maintain superior relationships with state and municipal Departments of Transportation and Public Works Departments

  • Manage Client relations on projects, fostering a "win-win", partnering environment, while maintaining strict commercial and contractual management of the project

  • Develop new business opportunities and generate future work by cultivating and maintaining long-term relationships with clients

Develop the next generation of field leaders to support our growth and geographic expansion.

  • Develop and mentor team members in their career development and progress; assist, provide, and promote training and staff

  • Act as a Mentor-Manager who is driving to develop the next generation of leaders in the construction industry by fostering a culture of continuous improvement, deploying robust teaching and training programs, coaching employees at every level to peak performance, and engaging in informed succession planning

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management or equivalent work experience.

  • 15+ years of construction operations experience with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.

  • Experience in heavy civil, vertical or commercial construction is required.

  • Experience in working with public agencies (Departments of Transportation, Public Works Departments) is a plus.

Physical Requirements of This Position

  • Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary; walking and standing are required only occasionally.

Visual Acuity Requirements Including Color, Depth Perception, and Field Vision

  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.

  • None. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work.)

  • This position will require up to 20% travel.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License and clean MVR Must maintain a valid driver's license during entire employment
