We are looking for a dynamic, innovative, production oriented, digital-and enterprise-minded Director of Content. KUSA/KTVD, the NBC/MyNet TEGNA stations in Denver, CO are redefining and redesigning how news is produced and distributed for busy consumers. We are building for the future with new ways to engage and educate our audiences by providing exceptional user experiences on all our platforms.
As the leader of an innovative news operation, you will oversee all content operations as well as be a leader of the strategic vision for station growth. You must be an experienced leader who embraces creative, enterprise storytelling and investigative journalism as key components of content for our newscasts, digital and social platforms. Qualified candidates must understand a digital news operation and the importance of social media and the role it plays with engaging and growing our audience.
The Director of Content must be an experienced leader and people person who can create an amazing, engaging culture and develop and coach our talented and eager staff to the next level. Must be an excellent communicator that can inspire and empower others with clear expectations and accountability to create and deliver the best engaging content for our audience.
Lead the news and content teams to execute the station's brand through content creation
Lead collaboration with the News Director and Digital Content Director to develop and drive the content strategy for the station
Lead the integration of digital and broadcast content strategies to serve growing audiences on all platforms and to meet or exceed our content KPIs across broadcast and digital platforms
Regularly review content strategy and ensure accountability to the content plan
Oversee alignment of content team structures to be better equipped to deliver storytelling telling in the digital age
Responsible for hiring talent in front of and behind the camera
Conduct regular reviews of all content with News Director and Digital Content Director
Collaborate with marketing and community relations on aligning content priorities
Inspire and coach superior, unique and engaging storytelling
Lead a culture that owns enterprise reporting and storytelling as well as breaking news across all content platforms
Ensure the content teams produce high-quality, relevant, local content that sets the operation apart from competitors
Partner with News Director and Digital Content Director to develop annual budget plans
Drive and reward creativity, innovation and out-of-the-box thinking that leads to differentiation and success
Communicate and coach the content teams on KUSA and TEGNA's content transformation initiatives
Lead and mentor content leadership and employees
Collaborate with News Director and Digital Content Director to lead recruiting and retention of key news and content positions
Here's what you need:
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field and news leadership experience
7+ years of content experience, including generation of original content
7+ years of management experience including recruiting coaching and developing on-air and off-air staff.
Solid journalistic and content judgment that emphasizes accurate, fair and unique local content, along with community engagement
Deep understanding of tenets of professional journalism
Proven ability to develop a content strategy and drive accountability
Strong organizational and communication skills a must
Must be able to work under intense deadlines with a calm demeanor
Passion for the industry, vision and curiosity for emerging media is a must
Must be knowledgeable in broadcast law
Must understand digital production and all current digital platforms
Active social media participant and strong social media skills
