Director of Design and Construction - FullSpeed Automotive

The Role:

The Director of Design and Construction will have the ability to either work remote or if in Denver can work out of the support center and will play a critical role in driving the growth of the company in both new unit development and conversions. The position will report to the CDO, require a passion for our mission and the drive to develop impactful physical spaces that create meaningful connections between our brand and consumers. The ideal candidate can roll up their sleeves and operate in a fast-paced growth company. This role will influence the vision of the business, and ensure the on-brand, on-time and capital efficient delivery is scalable as we grow. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with a successful track record of working in a consulting role with franchisees, while creating processes and systems to roll out brick and mortar units nationwide.

Who you are:

  • Experienced in ground up construction and all the variables that come with that. Experience in building automotive centers and car washes a plus.

  • Ability to thrive in a complex, fast-paced, high pressure, growth environment.

  • Strong desire to minimize risk, strategize, create, and execute growth plans.

  • Adept at amassing resources and organizing/creating process improvement.

  • Proven people manager who can lead, drive, and motivate indirect resources.

  • Strong sense of teamwork with the ability to foster relationships and gain agreement with timelines and data requirements from both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to adapt according to the market and the continuing innovation at FullSpeed Automotive.

  • Passion for organization and an aptitude for prioritizing multiple projects across multiple brands.

  • Strong collaborative partner to franchisees, Development team and Executive team.

What You'll Do:

  • Oversee all aspects of development, including Design, Permitting and Construction.

  • Utilize construction experience to create and lead our short term and long-term pipeline and expansion plans focused on conversions and new store openings.

  • Ability to source and create vendor relationships with Architects, Contractors and suppliers nationwide.

  • Able to navigate and work through complex city and municipality requirements.

  • Keep the development pipeline moving making sure all milestones are completed on brand and timely.

  • Able to value engineer all aspects of design, to create cost savings to the franchise community and stakeholders.

  • Work with franchisees on bid negotiations and supply channels.

  • Collaborate with our Chief Development Officer and our architect & design partners, our internal brand strategy team, and operations team to design, develop and build new locations.

  • Establish and communicate construction criteria to the franchise community and guide organization to build economical sites.

  • Manage and oversee all company related builds and or conversions

  • Develop a conversion manual for franchisees which allows franchisees to convert existing units into an FSA company.

  • Collaborate with functional areas throughout the company including but not limited to Marketing, Finance, Legal, and Operations.

  • Partner and collaborate with Regional Directors and COO on site development.

  • Maintain accountability and performance of teams results through frequent reporting of KPIs and metrics.

  • Work with key internal stakeholders to continue evolution of future conceptual design and weigh budgetary impacts while maintaining brand alignment.

  • Spearhead occupancy optimization efforts to drive improved 4 wall economics.

  • Proactively communicate construction timing and all related details and turnover status to the operations and training team as well as other departments.

The Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 - 10 years of design and construction management experience in commercial development.

  • Strong track record of business partnering with franchisees and preferred vendors.

  • Strong leadership skills and proven ability to build high performance teams that can operate in a high growth environment.

  • Strong relationships with national Architects, Contractors and other related entities.

  • A successful track record in strategic execution of brand development and business expansion.

  • Bachelor's degree with advanced degree preferred.

  • Proven analytical and deal negotiating skills.

  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and proven experience in cultivating collaborative working relationships with teams across an organization.

  • Track record of results opening units on time while utilizing skills in design and construction.

  • Entrepreneurial spirit and an ability to impact our communities in a positive, healthy way.

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills including strong Excel skills a must.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in your home office free of distractions and noise.

  • Ability to maintain stationary position to be able to operate a computer and other office equipment.

  • Must be able to identify, analyze and assess details.

  • For certain positions, must be able to occasionally move or transport items up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to communicate with others and exchange information accurately and effectively.

  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

  • Ability to travel by air and other means of transportation when needed.
