JOB PURPOSE:

Directs and oversees community relations activities for the Hospital. Serves as representative for the hospital as part of community organizations across the hospital service area and, when appropriate, advising the CEO and other management on pertinent matters. Oversee hospital Auxiliary operations and serve as primary community benefit contact for system office CB team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Develops and executes strategies that are intended to create and uphold a positive public image for the hospital and the system. By working and forming relationships with civic and community leaders, will generate new business opportunities in alignment with business strategy.

2.Develops and promotes community relations opportunities and represents the hospital at community meetings.

3.Works with departments, clinical centers, PCPs and specialists to develop community relations plans and promote new and ongoing initiatives in their areas.

4.Works with community-based organizations and community coalitions to develop programs, events and new initiatives that promote marketing and community relations objectives.

5.Direct and manage day-to-day community relations activities, including building and maintaining community organization relationships; bringing local sponsorship opportunities to the attention of CEO or appropriate system marketing staff; attending events or other community functions where the hospital is a stakeholder.

6.Act as a community spokesperson for the Hospital when appropriate.

7.Advise CEO and other hospital management on pertinent community matters.

8.Participate as an active member of the business development planning and implementation team bringing marketing and assessment of human behavior concepts to the table for discussion. Work in-depth with clinical services to determine business plans that will support active community engagement.

9.Interface, as requested, with various Piedmont system office-led efforts including brand awareness, public/media relations, employee engagement, development and government relations. Serve as a liaison with corporate marketing, communications, physician outreach and fundraising.



  1. Serve on hospital and community committees and special purpose work groups/task forces specifically related to hospital strategic plan and long-term growth. Represent hospital in the community through civic engagement activities, committees, memberships, boards and other relevant meetings.

  2. Coordinate, as appropriate, specific community outreach, community benefit and patient support programs with physicians, hospital departments, and outside community groups.

  3. Identify, evaluate and communicate potential efforts to enhance marketing, communication and fundraising to promote quality reputation of hospital. Review and select local media outlets for optimal performance.

  4. Plan, organize and manage the operation according to the annual budget for community and public relations.

  5. Plan and coordinate employee relations activities (entity Specific).

  6. May manage Guest House operations and staff (entity specific).

  7. May oversee the coordination of the Hospital based Volunteer Program (entity specific).


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Skill and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Skill and ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Ability to work as a member of a team.

  • Skill and ability in Microsoft Office applications.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Marketing or related field.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Seven (7) years administrative management experience, preferably in healthcare.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Able to develop cooperative working relationships between management, staff, physicians, board, volunteers and community. Possess excellent people and management skills as well as a working knowledge of hospital management policies and budgets. Ability to manage multiple projects at one time. Self-led and motivated position. Proficient with word processing and spreadsheet computer programs.
