Department Summary

The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) supports UCLA's community of educators in engaging in equity-minded and research-based teaching practices in support of diverse learners, advancing instructional innovation and pedagogical research, and celebrating inclusive excellence in teaching. To realize this mission, the TLC collaborates with instructors, leadership, and various campus partners to champion visionary ideas and forward-thinking initiatives that transform and elevate the teaching enterprise.

Position Summary

The Director for Communications & Creative Services will advance the UCLA Teaching & Learning Center (TLC) mission to elevate and celebrate inclusive excellence in teaching by engaging our community of educators in equity-minded and research-based teaching practices, instructional innovation, and pedagogical research. The Director for Communications & Creative Services is responsible for developing and implementing creative and comprehensive communications strategies that establish and strengthen the brand of the UCLA Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) in alignment with UCLA branding and strategic communications initiatives.

The Director will serve as a member of the Vice Provost's senior leadership team and provide strategic counsel for leadership and change management communications. Duties include, but are not limited to, leading the TLC communications efforts and overseeing the TLC Communications and Creative Services team, researching current trends in communications and technology, developing digital and print promotional materials and reports, and designing and managing websites, newsletters, and other digital media and communication platforms. The Director will help to raise awareness for and drive engagement in the programs, resources, and services offered by the TLC through creative, accessible visual content.

Through these efforts, the Director will enhance the TLC vision to support UCLA instructors, including graduate student teaching assistants, in their professional learning. The Director also will oversee communications and messaging on behalf of the Vice Provost.

Salary & Compensation

  • UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

Qualifications

10 yrs of experience Minimum of ten years of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, graphic design, communications, brand management, or a related professional area. (Required) Bachelor's degree in marketing, design, communications, or a closely related field, and/or other related experience. (Required)Minimum of ten years of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, graphic design, communications, brand management, or a related professional area. (Required)Experience with developing and implementing communications strategies, website development, and an understanding of social media best practices. (Required)Experience leading and managing a team of communicators in a complex organization. (Required)Expert command of digital technology, software and platforms such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.), Microsoft Office, presentation software, and web page creation and editing software. (Required)Expert knowledge of design standards for accessible digital and print media assets in compliance with the American with Disability Act (ADA) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) requirements. (Required)Expert knowledge of marketing research processes and web analysis methods. (Required)Highly developed ability to interpret information to make business decisions and recommendations based on analysis, best practices, and an understanding of preferred outcomes. (Required)Highly developed ability to take initiative, independently manage time, organize complex work assignments and attend to multiple projects to meet deadlines, and respond to and troubleshoot challenges quickly and effectively. (Required)Exceptional design, writing, and presentation/speaking skills and excellent problem-solving and project management skills. (Required)Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion. (Required)Ability to work on campus with the potential for a hybrid schedule. (Required)

  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's degree in marketing, design, communications, or a closely related field and/or equivalent experience (Required)
